Moreover, it pacifies the object, causes suffering, and manifests its own nature, which is devoid of both states. Therefore, it transforms into three states due to differences such as pleasure. In order to provide another explanation for this itself, it is said, "Thinking thus," and so on. Some people think that the ripening of the fruits of virtuous and non-virtuous actions is experienced through this, therefore it is considered experience. In order to explain what action produces what result, it is said, "Among them, experiencing pleasure is the ripening of the fruits of virtuous actions," and so on. The term "both virtuous and non-virtuous actions" here refers to the minor ones. For those who believe that when only minor virtuous actions ripen, it is neither suffering nor pleasure, according to their doctrine, one should not say "both." The rest is not explained because it is easy to understand. Thus, the ripening of the actions of these three feelings is explained. Now, in order to specifically show, it is said, "This is the Alaya-vijñana itself," and so on. Like this, the ripening of virtuous and non-virtuous actions arises from the Alaya-vijñana itself. Therefore, in the true sense, the equanimity that exists in accordance with the Alaya-vijñana is the ripening of the fruits of virtuous and non-virtuous actions. Pleasure and pain arise from the ripening of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, therefore they are called ripening. In order to show the nature of pleasure, etc., it is said, "Among them, experiencing pleasure is," and so on. Whatever feeling arises, one does not want to be separated from it, thinking, "May I never be separated from this." Whatever feeling ceases, the thought of wanting to meet it arises, thinking, "May this feeling arise again for me," such an experience is called pleasure. The opposite of this should be understood as experiencing suffering. Whether it arises or ceases, if the thought of wanting to separate or meet does not arise, that is the feeling that is neither suffering nor pleasure. In order to show the fourth mental factor, it is said, "Perception is grasping the characteristics of the object."

Earth, etc. In order to eliminate that, it is said, "The object is the object of focus," and so on. The object of focus is indicated by the word 'object'. The distinction of that object is indicated by the word 'characteristic'. Blue and yellow, etc., are the agents that establish the object of focus, and that is synonymous with 'cause'. This is blue itself, not yellow, and such discrimination of characteristics is to grasp that as a characteristic. That is to say, what grasps the cause that establishes blue and yellow, etc., is feeling. In order to show the fifth mental factor, it is said, "Attention is the mind's manifest action," and so on. The nature of the dharma that manifestly acts on the mind, what is the nature of moving the mind, that is attention. Manifest action means the agent. Moving means between turning and the agent. In order to show its own nature from the perspective of the result, it is said, "If there is something," and so on. For example, just as iron moves due to the power of a magnet, similarly, if there is something, the mind will move towards the object of focus, that is attention. Moving means shaking. That is to say, by what power does the mind's action of grasping the object arise, that is attention. In order to combine with the verses, it is said, "Feeling is of three kinds," and so on. In the scriptures, it is said that three kinds of feeling arise, why is it generally said about the Alaya consciousness? Therefore, one does not know what feeling is for that. Similarly, in the scriptures, it is said that four kinds of differentiated dharmas such as virtue arise, one does not know what will be included in the Alaya consciousness, therefore, for that, feeling is equanimity, etc., it is said, etc. 'For that' refers to the Alaya consciousness, etc., it is said, etc., that is easy to understand so it is not said. For that Alaya consciousness, feeling is only equanimity, there is no pleasure, and no suffering. Why is that? It is said, "Because the object of focus and aspect of those two are completely cut off." Like this.
