It is said, dwelling in "is," etc., considering the three, such as the senses, to be both cause and effect, dwelling in this way is the union of the three. To explain how contact arises, it is said, "If there is," etc. If there is the union of the three, then simultaneously with it, the change of the senses that corresponds to the arising of feelings such as pleasure, the change of the object that is similar to experiencing pleasure, etc., and whatever completely cuts off the aspect of experiencing pleasure, etc., that is contact. "Experiencing pleasure, etc." is a synonym for "corresponding to the arising of feelings such as pleasure." Regarding the question, "What is the change of the senses?" it is said, "With what particular difference of the senses?" etc., that is, with what particular difference do the senses correspond, so that pleasure, etc., becomes the cause, that is called its change. Regarding the question, "Why is this called contact?" it is said, "Contact also," etc., that is, in this way, this contact is similar to the change of the senses, therefore it touches the senses, or the change that is similar to the senses is contact, therefore it is called contact. The so-called "touching the senses because it is similar to the change of the senses" means that just as the senses correspond to the arising of pleasure, etc., so also contact corresponds to the arising of pleasure, etc., therefore the changes are similar, so they touch each other equally. Contact is the complete cutting off of the change of the object, that is, experiencing pleasure, etc., because it is focused on that. If it is not focused on that, then it is thought that it is not the complete cutting off of the change of the senses, so how can contact be said to be the complete cutting off of the change of the senses? Therefore, it is said, "Even though it is the nature of cutting off the change of the object," etc. In this way, because it is similar to the change, it touches the senses, or because of this contact itself, even though it is the nature of cutting off the change of the object, it is also said to be the cutting off of the change of the senses. Having thus explained the nature of contact itself, to show its function, it is said, "Its function is the basis of feeling," etc., the meaning of which is merely a combination of words.

Also, the action is indicated by the scriptures. Therefore, it is also said in the sutras, and so on. The sutra says that the touch that experiences happiness is the cause of the arising of the feeling of happiness. Therefore, this action is the basis of feeling. In order to make it easy to understand, the actions of these mental factors are explained. In this way, explaining the actions of these, one can easily understand the respective definite nature. In order to dispel the second mental factor, it is said that attention is the entry of the mind. In order to dispel it, it is said that it is entry because of entering. Because of entering, it is entry, which shows the definite meaning of the word. What makes the mind clearly turn towards the object is called attention. What makes the mind engage in the object that one wants to grasp is a synonym. In order to show its function, it is said that it has the function of holding the mind on the object. This action is holding the mind on the object. If one wants to know how to hold, it is said that holding the mind is, and so on. For the object that one wants to manifest, the mind engages in it again and again, which is holding. So, is this the action of all attention? Or is it the action of only some? Therefore, it is said that the action is also, and so on. The characteristic of the mind's continuity being definite on one object is shown as the action. This is said in terms of special attention, and it is not present in every moment of the mind. In this way, it only functions in one moment of the mind, and not in other moments. The so-called special attention refers to the attention of meditators, which is a synonym. In order to show the third mental factor, it is said that feeling is the nature of experiencing. The nature of experiencing pleasant objects, etc., is feeling. What experiences pleasant objects, etc., is called feeling, which is a synonym. In order to show its detailed classification, it is said that it also calms the object, etc., like this.
