If one can clearly understand through both knowledge and expression, then what virtues are needed at that time? In response to this, there is a transformation here: Although knowledge and expression do not manifestly enter into the self-nature of the primary entity, nevertheless, in order to think that the self-nature of the primary entity can be known by some other means, therefore, it is said, "Apart from knowledge and expression," and so on. Apart from intelligence and sound, there is no other means to completely ascertain the self-nature of the primary entity that is known. Thus, after showing that there is no means to completely ascertain the self-nature of the primary entity, in order to conclude, therefore, it is said, "Therefore, the object of the self-nature of the primary entity," and so on. Because, like this, there is no other means to completely ascertain the self-nature of that primary entity, and knowledge and expression do not enter into it, therefore, it should be understood that there are no actual things, such as fire, and so on. Since intelligence and sound do not manifestly enter into the substance of fire, even if that is not the thing itself, intelligence and sound manifestly enter into the kind of fire, therefore, does it itself become a thing? Answer: Alas! That also cannot be a substance, because, like this, that is also known through knowledge and expression after being transformed by the self-nature of sound, and if one cannot understand its self-nature, how can it become the thing itself? Some think that intelligence and sound manifestly enter into sound, therefore, sound itself becomes a thing. In response to this, therefore, it is said, "Similarly, in between sounds," and so on. Just as knowledge and expression manifestly enter into substance and kind, sound also does not manifestly enter into those two, because the self-nature of sound and expression are not related, because the self-nature of sound and expression are not different. If difference is the place of relation, then how can it be appropriate if there is no difference? Other schools think that in a place where there is no relation, no expression will enter, and wherever expression does not enter, knowledge will also not enter. Like this, other schools think that all knowledge is with discrimination, how can it enter without relying on manifest expression? Kind and quality, and

Moreover, because it is recognized that sound does not depend on its own nature, it is not clung to. Therefore, these discriminations are also impossible to exist on other things. Like this, in order to show that there is no knowledge and speech and to make a conclusion, it is said "in this way" and so on. Because in this way, knowledge and speech do not appear anywhere, therefore, since there is no speech and what is to be spoken, it is established that there is no real thing. Like this, in order to prevent the real and clearly show the imputation, it is said again, "All these are imputation" and so on. According to your doctrine, all things are only imputation, and there is no real existence, just like this, what exists in the state where something is not in a certain place is called imputation. All the uses of sound are based on the nature of imputation without a subject, and it is used with that nature. That is to say, the subject becomes the nature of imputation, and then the sound makes people understand, but it does not understand its own nature. How can it be real? This will be explained. In order to make a conclusion from the beginning to the end, it is said, "If there is no self and dharma really existing in it" and so on. Like this, according to your doctrine, nothing is real. Therefore, if self and dharma are not real, then it is unreasonable to say that it is not appropriate to take close. The second chapter. Like this, in order to fully explain the present content, and in order to state the text, it is said, "The transformed consciousness" and so on. Because the difference of the transformed consciousness mentioned above is not understood, it is to show it. When asked what word to show, therefore, it is said, "Transformation is also of three kinds" and so on. The transformed consciousness that takes self and dharma close should be observed as three kinds. In order to further show the difference between these three kinds, it is said, "Distinguish by the real object of cause and the real object of effect" and so on. These three kinds of transformed consciousness are only distinguished by cause and effect, that is, the synonym of the transformation of cause and the transformation of effect. In order to show the first one, it is said, "Among them, the transformation of cause is" and so on, that is, Alaya.
