So, just as you assume hardness, wetness, and heat to be. If that is the case, then other forms, smells, tastes, and sounds will also be perceived as existing outside because they are encountered by conditions, because they are manifested by their own characteristics, not because they are produced, which would be too extreme. Therefore, proving by reasoning that "they are perceived because they are produced, not because they are manifested by their own characteristics," and making it a section of the sutra, is also mentioned in other sutras, such as "Monks, meditators..." etc., which has been widely proclaimed. Just as the trunk of a tree produces other elements from various elements, it will also be widely proclaimed when encountering special conditions. These elements are not fragments either, just as the trunk of a tree contains elements such as earth, they are not fragments either. The so-called "fragments" refers to the fragments of elements such as earth. Why? Because it is also widely proclaimed in one part, just as a part of the trunk of a tree will also be completely transformed as desired, and it is impossible for countless fragments to exist in that one part, so it is impossible for countless fragments of elements such as earth to exist. Therefore, elements are not fragments either. Various elements refer to various seeds. The so-called "element" is called an element because it can produce fruit. As for what is said, "like the smell of earth," the smell of earth will also be widely proclaimed. Because it is not admitted that certain great elements exist in certain aggregates, it is said that in certain aggregates such as earth, it is not admitted that great elements such as water exist. If that is the case, it contradicts the sutra, it contradicts the sutra of separate places, because in the sutra of separate places it is said that each of the nine places is caused by the four great elements. If you ask how it is said, then after widely proclaiming, venerable...

What is the birth of the eye element? Bhikshu, the inner birth of the eye element is caused by the four great elements, is form, invisible, and obstructive. Thus, after extensively explaining the inner birth of form elements. Bhikshu, the outer birth of form is caused by the four great elements, is form, visible, and obstructive. Thus, after extensively explaining the inner birth of form elements. Bhikshu, the outer birth of form is caused by the four great elements, is form, visible, and obstructive. Similarly, Bhikshu, the outer birth of touch is caused by the four great elements, and the four great elements are the cause, is form, invisible, and obstructive, and so on. From these outer birth touches, establish the touch element, which should be known as the nine elements. Why? Because the touch element is caused by the four great elements, and softness, etc., which are transformed from the four great elements, while the four great elements are not caused by the four great elements. For example, from hand clapping, etc., it is said that there are four great elements in the eyeball. As it is said, in the eyeball, what is internally present, and what is inherently hard and solidified, is taken and held, that is the inner earth element present in the eyeball. Similarly, the inner wind element present in the eyeball, etc., are extensively explained. The past and the future are non-existent, which is obvious, so there is no need to establish this. For example, the hair of a tortoise is non-existent, which is obvious. Not only does it contradict direct perception, but also the statement "the past is not, nor is it existent" is also self-contradictory. If it exists, how can it be the past? The past refers to exhaustion, cessation, destruction, and transformation in the world. If it exists, how can it be the future? The future is also the same, which contradicts this, Bhikshus, the past form

It is. Saying "future form exists" contradicts what is said in detail, "when the eye arises, it does not come from anywhere." In the Sutra Pitaka, it says, "The escape from forms is formlessness." What does this mean? It says in detail, "The escape from desires is forms, and the escape from forms is formlessness. Whatever is manifestly created and manifestly accumulated, its escape is cessation." This is what it says. Saying "the escape from forms is formlessness" contradicts inference, because feelings and so on are seen to arise dependent on form. For example, feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness are seen to arise dependent on form, not without form. Therefore, where feelings and so on arise for some, it is not without form and so on, but it is inferred in that way. In the Sutra Pitaka, it says, "The escape from forms is formlessness," and it is admitted that feelings and so on arise in those formless realms, so it contradicts inference. Similarly, if it is said that there is a person who has abandoned the fetters of birth but has not abandoned the fetters of manifestation, this also contradicts inference. How is this done? The fetters of birth are afflictions such as desire. Because it is abandoned, it is manifestation. The fundamental fetters of existence, which are afflictions such as desire, are also abandoned, it is inferred in this way, because it is included in that. If this is done, then saying that the fetters of birth are abandoned but the fetters of manifestation are not abandoned, this statement also contradicts inference. Commentary on Reasoning, Volume Eleven. The basis of the precepts of a layperson, which is explained in detail, is that the five precepts of a layperson are: refraining from killing, refraining from stealing, refraining from sexual misconduct, and refraining from lying.
