From whence is the teaching that is spoken of? It is spoken of extensively. Some say that there is only one truth, there is no second. People here create merit and demerit, as it is said in the verses after speaking of the author, it is said that the author is not found, this is a contradiction between the former and the latter. What is this, is spoken of extensively. What is this, is it spoken of in terms of substance? Is it specifically spoken of from the aggregates of eight or nine atoms, etc., in terms of each substance such as the earth element? Or is it referring to the lump, that is, the non-corporeal, non-subduable itself, without any particular distinction? Or is it referring to the type, that is, the type of form, the appearance of form is so much, like this, any form is fine, all of these are the four great elements, and the four great elements are the cause? Or is it said that from the four great elements and what is transformed from the four great elements, each of their own, is spoken of extensively, that is, the elements such as the earth element, and the forms and sounds, etc., that are transformed from the elements, each of their own characteristics will become non-existent, that is, the characteristics of the earth element, such as hardness, etc., will not exist, and the respective characteristics of the forms, etc., that are transformed from the elements, such as the appearance recognized by eye consciousness, etc., will also not exist. Why? Because everything will become all characteristics, that is, all the four great elements and what is transformed from the four great elements, each one has become all characteristics, then with what characteristic can the four great elements and what is transformed from the four great elements be determined? Furthermore, all the senses will also grasp, this will become a fault. Just as the elements are grasped by the body, will the forms, sounds, smells, tastes, etc., that are transformed from the elements also become the same? Just as the forms, etc., that are transformed from the elements are grasped by the eye sense, etc., will the elements also become the same? Or is it said that any form is fine, is spoken of extensively, is it spoken of in terms of the lump? If so, the assembled forms, such as light, etc., and the earth

If everything becomes such that all four elements are observable, then light and so on will also become prosperous. Jewel light has neither moisture nor heat, and stones and so on also lack both. The steadfast vajra and stones and so on also lack movement. The reason why it is said that other elements are dominant is because they are powerful or their characteristics are enhanced. If one element is overwhelmed by another, it cannot be observed. For example, if saying so would become prosperous. Here, the teacher says: If existence is fully proven, then light and so on also have hardness and other characteristics, because other elements are dominant, so when other elements overwhelm, they cannot be observed. If one can understand this, then if existence is not fully proven, one cannot understand that light and so on have hardness and other characteristics. Why? Because if all blue and other colors had all the differences of yellow and red and other colors, it would be unacceptable. The reason why it is said that light and so on will become prosperous in any case is because when sourness overwhelms water, it cannot be observed. Here, the teacher says: Even if sourness is added to water, the taste of the water can still be observed. Why? Because the cognition is different. Because the taste of water mixed with sourness, water not mixed, and sourness not mixed with other substances, their cognitions are seen to be different. Therefore, even if sourness is added there, its taste can still be observed. The Vaibhashikas say: Then, water and stones and so on will also become prosperous, just like the smell of earth. Just as the earth has a smell, if it meets with special conditions, that is, with the specialty of water, then due to the enhancement of characteristics, it can be observed later. The teacher says: How can one know that this is because of the enhancement of characteristics and not because of arising? If it is observed due to the enhancement of characteristics by meeting with special conditions, and not because of arising, then this will become too extreme. How so? Like other tactile objects.
