Being free from hatred and, being free from ignorance, is the nature of not being universally attached, is the nature of not being universally hateful, is the nature of not being universally ignorant, and is the nature of not regressing in the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. Is that bhikkhu who does not speak such words that are not in accordance with the Dharma, worthy of prophesying, "My birth is exhausted, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further here"? Venerable Shariputra, it is not so. Thus it is said, Because it is said, "It is the nature of not being universally attached," and because it is said, "It is the nature of not regressing," that is, because it is said, "Never diminishing" and "Not regressing," that is, because it is spoken with the premise of never diminishing, and because it is spoken with the premise of not regressing, this is the concluding word. Thus it is said, because with the premise of never diminishing, it is said, "It is the nature of not being universally attached," because it is said, "It is the nature of not being universally hateful," because it is said, "It is the nature of not being universally ignorant," it should be understood that these are not corresponding. Similarly, because with the premise of not regressing, it is said, "It is the nature of not regressing," that is, because it is the nature of not regressing in the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm, it should be understood that these are not corresponding. Why is it said, "It is the nature of not being universally attached," and so on? If it is explained in such detail, it is because the detachment of non-Buddhists is not in accordance with the Dharma, because the detachment of non-Buddhists will regress, and if one is liberated from the desire of that realm, then at that time one will completely regress. Moreover, without a doubt, one will regress from those places to lower places. This is not in accordance with the Dharma, because it is a learner, therefore it is explained in this way. It should be understood that non-attachment and so on are corresponding to the same thing, that is, it should be understood that the roots of virtue, non-attachment, non-hatred, and non-ignorance, are corresponding to the same thing.

It is the concluding word. It should be known that it is not that one does not possess desire, etc., nor is it that it is not indicated. Why? Because it is in terms of individual liberation. It is extensively stated in the Sutra of the Five-Limbed Diviner: Where do those non-virtuous states remain extinguished, and where are the remnants completely exhausted without remaining, and completely exhausted? The diviner says: This monk possesses morality, is protected by the vows of individual liberation, is perfect in conduct and demeanor, fears even the slightest fault, and learns by properly taking up the bases of training. As it is extensively stated, therefore, in terms of the vows of individual liberation, it should be known that it is similar to and possesses non-attachment, etc., which is extensively stated. It should be known that it is not similar to and possesses desire, etc., which means it should be known that desire, etc., has not manifested, which is the concluding word. It should be known that one will not be eaten by demons, and is similar to and possesses non-attachment, etc. Why? If it is not a virtuous dharma with outflows, it will be indicated. Why is it said that it is not that one does not possess it? A detailed determination is made of this. It will not be shown separately, which means that for the liberation of the mind, one truly knows that it is the liberation of the mind, and the mind that does not correspond to desire, etc., will not be shown separately. Even in vulgar superknowledges, this means that from here, whatever the five superknowledges of the outsiders are, those are vulgar superknowledges, and in those superknowledges, it will not be said that one is separated from desire, etc., just like liberation. Just as there, for the liberation of the mind, one truly knows that it is the liberation of the mind, just as this is not mentioned, similarly, it will not be said that one is separated from desire, etc. Why? Because whatever is separated from desire, etc., that itself is liberation. Furthermore, if with desire, etc.
