The reason for saying this is that for any phenomena arising from causes, what their causes and their cessation are, the Tathagata has declared, the great Shramana has said so. Hearing this verse once is enough to grasp its meaning. The detailed explanation from that is as follows: hearing this verse can lead to the attainment of wisdom that transcends the world, that is, to attain wisdom without outflows. To abandon afflictions and realize the truth. To abandon afflictions, one becomes a person with decisive wisdom of renunciation. To realize the truth, one becomes a person with decisive wisdom of discernment. Because one meditates from the eight liberations. These eight liberations are: one who has form contemplates forms, this is the first liberation. Internally without the perception of form, and contemplating external forms, this is the second liberation. Having realized and fully abiding in the sublime liberation through the body, this is the third liberation. The four formless absorptions, and the eighth is the cessation of perception and feeling. The so-called "being able to roam freely in all directions" is the summary of having realized and fully abiding in the eight liberations through the body. There, the detailed explanation is also in that sutra. Because meditation is the basis for supernormal powers and liberations, supernormal powers are the basis, and liberation is also the basis, it should be understood as the cause. That is to say, one first generates meditation, and then from meditation, relying on meditation, one generates supernormal powers and the eight liberations. The so-called "wise person" refers to a knowledgeable person, that is, those who have gained control over their minds and are not robbed by their minds. The so-called "possessing the jewel of wisdom" is also explained as before. Why? Because it is as difficult to obtain as a jewel, and it can perfectly accomplish great benefits, and it can bring joy, because it can bring liberation and joy to the continuums of oneself and others, therefore it is a person with the jewel of wisdom. Here, the noble disciple who possesses learning means that I am miserly towards beings.

Those who are completely entangled by defilements, due to the mind being free from the stinginess of defilements, give generously, extend their hands, delight in giving, give continuously, give completely and fully, and delight in sharing giving, abiding in their homes, "I have well obtained my gains," thus remembering the proper form of the Dharma to be given, this is a portion of the Sutra Pitaka. "Its cause" means the synonym for the cause of stinginess. Like a fruit tree, just as from which tree fruit arises, that is like what is called a fruit tree, it is similar to that. Like a cloud of hail, just as from which cloud hail falls, that is like what is called a cloud of hail, it is similar to that. "For that very reason" means that the form that arises in this way is its cause. Thus, what is extensively explained is that, as stated before, the defilement of stinginess, the previously mentioned stinginess is for the sake of distinguishing, like a fruit tree and a cloud of hail. Thus, some difference in defilements is the cause, but not just any defilement is the cause of stinginess, therefore it is to be distinguished. "Free from the stinginess of defilements," the later mentioned stinginess is for the sake of correctly showing the order of generosity. Correctly showing the order of generosity is also that the defilement of stinginess forms, first being separated, and then being free from stinginess. How can one abide in their home with a mind free from the stinginess of defilements? Giving generously, this is extensively explained, wherein giving generously, this shows that it is giving without abiding, and delighting in sharing giving, this shows that it is giving impartially. Wherein giving generously is giving without abiding. "Extending the hand" means giving extensively, it is not being stingy with giving. "Delighting in giving," giving gold and so on to others is giving, and being delighted in that. "Giving continuously" means giving.

It is with function and manner. The so-called from monks to beggars, etc., refers to monks, Brahmins, poor beggars, the afflicted, and those who travel on the road. Among them, son of good family, being good at restraining food is like this: Monks, sons of good family, joy is not for enjoyment, not for fatness, not for beauty, not for adornment, but for the sake of maintaining this body, for nourishing, for being free from hunger, for following the pure conduct. Like this, old feelings should be destroyed, and new feelings should not arise, so that I can survive, have strength, happiness, be without fault, and exist reasonably. Therefore, one should eat after examining separately. Monks, for example, a man who drives a chariot, uses ghee or oil residue to lubricate the axle of the chariot, not for enjoyment, not for fatness, not for beauty, not for adornment, but for the sake of being able to carry goods. Also, a wounded man, uses ghee or oil residue to smear the wound, not for enjoyment, not for fatness, not for beauty, not for adornment, but for the sake of healing the wound. Similarly, son of good family, joy is also not for enjoyment, not for fatness, not for beauty, not for adornment, but for the sake of maintaining this body, for nourishing, for being free from hunger, for following the pure conduct. Like this, old feelings should be destroyed, and new feelings should not arise, so that I can survive, have strength, happiness, be without fault, and exist appropriately. Therefore, one should eat after examining separately. This is a section of the Sutra Pitaka. All of these, extensively explaining that it is only enjoying desires, this is the teacher's own view that is greatly elucidated. All of these, eating for enjoyment, like young people, they eat for enjoyment merely because of the thought of laughter and play, this is a detailed explanation.
