Depending on the conceptualization that leads to suffering, the examination by the conceptualization that gives rise to attachment, fighting, fault-finding, disputes, and quarrels is just like that, this is a section of the Sutra Pitaka. What is called "intolerable" is the intolerance of fault-finding. What is called "speaking disagreeably with each other" is speaking contradictorily, which is a synonym. Like the Dharma of practicing asceticism, even if scolded, one does not scold back; even if angered, one does not anger back; even if beaten, one does not beat back; even if found fault with, one does not find fault back, this is a section of the Sutra Pitaka. What is called "speech and action" is speech and action, action is the change of speech and body, therefore it is speech and action. Speech and action are displeasing, which means speech and action are displeasing. Fault-finding is as before. How is it? Speaking of others' faults is fault-finding. Here, the noble Shravaka, regarding his own precepts, remembers these precepts as not being lost, without faults, not being a guide, not being in groups, being independent, not being coarse, being well understood, being well crafted, being praised by the wise, and not being blamed by the wise, thus truly recollecting, this is a section of the Sutra Pitaka. Because of not transgressing what is learned, it is because of not transgressing the branches of precepts, abandoning killing and the like, so it is not lost. What is called independent, in the extensive explanation, independent is completely taking hold of its antidote, which is the antidote to the loss of precepts, which is the power of individual observation and the power of cultivation are its antidotes, completely taking hold of it is being present. Again and again, completely taking hold of its antidote, therefore it will become one's own master. How is it one's own master? Because of the cause of not being taken away by conditions, conditions are evil friends and pleasing objects, approaching and the elaborations that increase killing do not take away, not being taken away is that cause.

Therefore. Question: How is it known to be the dominion of the independent ones? Answer: It is said in the sutra, "From now on, this boy is not my slave, nor is he to be ordered about by me, but is independent and goes wherever he pleases." Therefore, it is established that the independent one is the very nature of self-mastery. That which has not become defiled is due to two things: wrong views and aspirations. Wrong views are due to any of the views such as the view of the aggregates. Aspiration is the wish, "May I become a god or any deity through this discipline, asceticism, or celibacy." Why is it that these two do not cause defilement? Answer: It is because of the cause of declaring definite departure, as it is for the accomplishment of liberation. This, beginning with "By this," which is extensively explained, is the section of the sutra where "not degenerating" and so forth appear, which shows that it possesses four qualities of discipline: it appears as being unable to be overcome by the cause of immoral discipline, and relying on its antidote and tranquility. Among these, the three phrases "not degenerating, without fault, and not turned into a guide" show that it cannot be overcome by the cause of immoral discipline. The remaining phrases are to be connected one by one in order with being unable to be overcome by its cause, and so forth. How so? That is, it cannot be overcome by its cause, that is, the cause of immoral discipline cannot be overcome by afflictions and near afflictions, which is shown by the phrase "not being a combination." Relying on its antidote, that is, relying on the antidote to immoral discipline, is shown by the phrase "independent." Relying on that, that is, relying on peace and not relying on the existence of birth, is shown by the phrase "not becoming defiled." The first three, "not degenerating, without fault, and not turned into a guide," are well understood, because they are completely perfect. The other three, "not being a combination, independent, and not becoming defiled," are well accomplished, because they are good.

This is because the writing is completely correct. The extensive explanation of "not despised by the wise" refers to the fact that it is not despised by the wise Arhats, and also because it is not despised in any way. For example, just as the first dhyana and so on, which are with outflows, are despised by the aspect of being without outflows, this is not the case, because it is the cause of being without outflows, because it is without outflows. This is its summary. After speaking extensively, monks, the suffering that is abandoned and completely known by a person who sees the truth, attains the fruit, and possesses realization, is as much as the reeds that depend on a pond. This is a section of the Sutra. The extensive explanation of "from this is the object" means that from this section of the Sutra, it is the object. By showing the fruit, it is action. By nature, it is nature, which is the complete display of perfect view. The three words "one who sees the truth, attains the fruit, and possesses realization" refer respectively to the view that takes truth as its object, that is, the view that takes the four truths as its object; the view that causes the attainment of fruit, that is, the attainment of the fruit of stream-entry and so on; and the nature of realization, that is, the view without outflows. With this perfection, it is the perfection of view. It should be known that realizing oneself as it is, means realizing without relying on others and without inversion. This is its summary. The meaning of realization arises from faith, that is, when the knowable and the knower meet. For example, just as the meaning of direct perception itself, therefore it is called realization. Monks, these three are internal stains, internal rivals, internal opponents, and internal enemies. What are the three? Monks, desire is an internal stain, an internal rival, an internal opponent, and an internal enemy. Just as desire is, so are hatred and delusion.
