That is the view. Categories. Furthermore, the extensive explanation of what is called "Excellence of Meaning" shows that it is well entered starting from accomplishing the excellence of meaning, which is indicated by the word "entered into reason." Starting from accomplishing without reversing, it shows that it is well entered, which is indicated by the word "entered straightly." Starting from accomplishing without being different, it shows that it is well entered, which is indicated by the word "entered harmoniously." Starting from accomplishing as it is shown accordingly, it shows that it is well entered, which is indicated by the word "acting in accordance with the Dharma." A monk who is immoral, has sinful qualities, is rotten, leaking, like rotten wood, behaves like a donkey, claims to be a renunciate when he is not, claims to be a celibate when he is not, that is a section of the Sutra Pitaka. Having sinful qualities means that shame and embarrassment are diminished, because shamelessness is sinful. That is because he does not abandon all practices, which is a synonym for not abandoning all sinful practices. Rotten wood is rotten wood. As it is said in the Vinaya Sutra of the Donkey, for example, monks, just as a donkey follows a large herd of cows, thinking, "I am also a cow! I am also a cow!" However, it does not have the habit of drinking water like a cow, nor does it have the color of a cow, nor does it have the sound of a cow. Monks, similarly, here some foolish people follow the great Sangha of monks, thinking, "I am also a monk! I am also a monk!" However, he does not always generate great faith, nor does he always learn in the training of higher morality, higher mind, and higher wisdom. Monks, furthermore, although that foolish person follows the great Sangha of monks, he is far from the Sangha of monks, and the Sangha of monks is far from him.

It is so. The reason for saying "because of claiming to be a true practitioner" is that the state of truly being a practitioner is the true practitioner, which is the Noble Eightfold Path. This is because they claim to possess these. They also claim to possess any fruit. Therefore, they are not practitioners, but claim to be practitioners. Therefore, their behavior is like that of a donkey. The reason for saying "because of claiming to abandon sexual intercourse" is that they are not celibates, but claim to be celibates. Therefore, their behavior is also like that of a donkey. The fault of wrong conduct is fully revealed by the word "corrupted morality." The fault of wrong thought is revealed by the word "having sinful qualities." The fault of not being satisfied with small things is revealed by the word "rotten inside." The fault of leakage is revealed by the word "leakage." The fault of not having a share of realization is revealed by the word "like rotten wood." The fault of wrong livelihood is fully revealed by the passage "behaving like a donkey, from not being a celibate but claiming to be a celibate." "Rotten inside, because of not ceasing discrimination and dwelling in filth," as it is said in the sutra, "How is it not clearing away filth? That is, when discrimination arises towards desire, one accepts it, does not abandon it, does not clear it away, does not terminate it. When discrimination arises towards hatred, one accepts it, and so on, until one does not terminate it. Like this, it is not clearing away filth." These terms are used to explain in detail, that is, the terms "rotten inside" and "leakage," fully reveal another brief meaning of this sutra passage, which is that it fully reveals the six wrongdoings: Wrong conduct is caused by corrupted morality. Wrong thought is caused by having sinful qualities. Wrong dwelling is caused by rotten inside. Dwelling refers to discriminating about the manner of behavior in the first half of the night and so on. Wrong walking is caused by leakage.

And going for alms is also for the sake of going to homes for alms. If that is reversed, it is not closing the doors of the senses. Losing fortune is like rotten wood. Losing livelihood is like wandering around like a donkey, because relying on sinful desires, one claims to be a true ascetic, or claims to abstain from sexual activity. Monks, sometimes we abide in the uposatha with eight limbs, and sometimes we do not abide. Sometimes we strive not to lie down in the realm of miracles, and sometimes we do not strive not to lie down. Gautamas, if you beings are afflicted, suffering, sorrowful, and confused, what kind of gains do you have? What kind of good gains do you have? Sometimes abiding in the uposatha with eight limbs, and sometimes not abiding, this is a fragment of the sutra. The word "etc." in "people etc., gains etc." refers to being born in the central region, having complete senses, and so on. Being characterized by afflictions etc., the word "etc." in "extensive explanation etc." refers to being suffering, sorrowful, and confused. The cause of suffering is being afflicted. For suffering, it shows the state in which beings exist as suffering, sorrowful, and confused. Just as most have become robbers, this is because most are robbers. Confusion is unpleasant, hence it is so. That is, because of extensive explanation, those beings are characterized by suffering etc. in the three times. So what are the three times? Encountering unpleasant objects, this is extensive explanation. The afflicted one is angry in all three of those times, that is, encountering unpleasant objects, being separated from pleasant objects, and not possessing pleasant objects. For encountering pleasant objects, due to desire, one is also afflicted. The characteristics of suffering etc. should be understood in order, for example, poverty is suffering.
