is a synonym for the word "to become." The phrase "through this verse" appears extensively, so what does this verse reveal? It completely reveals that "all conditioned things are decaying." The phrase "temporarily changing" completely reveals the meaning of "going," that is, the self-nature is momentarily destroyed, as stated by the phrase "not appearing." It completely reveals permanent destruction, as stated by the phrase "gone and never returning." Although it is permanent destruction, it also completely reveals that it is not annihilation, as stated by the phrase "newly produced." For those decaying conditioned things, because of not understanding, they cling to self and what belongs to self. This is a synonym for the phrase "because of not understanding, they cling to self and what belongs to self." "Furthermore" refers to other categories, that is, what is said by the verse that extensively appears as "temporarily changing"? "Seeing it as imperishable" means seeing conditioned things as permanent. "Seeing it as decaying for a long time" means that even if these conditioned things are impermanent, they are seen as decaying after a long time. Others feel sad when conditioned things decay. Others see them as decaying, that is, seeing them as annihilation, which is a synonym for this phrase. For those who see conditioned things in this way, the four roots reveal this very truth of impermanence. Through the four roots of that verse, namely the first "temporarily changing," the second "not appearing," the third "gone and never returning," and the fourth "newly produced." Among them, two roots completely reveal that conditioned things are without self and without what belongs to self, which two? "Temporarily changing and not appearing," and "gone and never returning, newly produced." Because the sutra says, "Whatever is impermanent is suffering. Whatever is suffering is without self, that is not what belongs to me, that has no I, nor is it mine." One root is seeing them as self and what belongs to self, that is, "however clinging to self and what belongs to self." Another root is that its cause is bound by ignorance, and this act

This is called "Without Action." It is a complete revelation of the basis, nature, and cause of inverted clinging. How is it revealed? First, the basis of inverted clinging is revealed by the first two roots. The nature is revealed by the third root. The cause is revealed by the fourth root. The meaning of these two verses should also be stated as before. How is it? Here, first, from the first verse, all actions that should not be done refer to what should not be done later, which is called not doing. Starting from the three Bodhis, arising from hearing, thinking, and meditating, one should mature the continuum, and should not do this happiness. Even for a long time, one can attain peace. The action that should not be done, if one perseveres for a long time, at that time one will surely attain liberation, this is the concluding word. What is done is, if what is done should also be done, this is the concluding word. If one does that again, one will not attain peace for a very long time. Even for a very long time, one will not attain liberation, this is the concluding word, like the samadhi of non-Buddhists. Commentary, Commentary of Reason, Volume Fifteen ends. Secondly, from "What is done should also not be done," for the sake of great Bodhi, whether it is the accumulation of merit or wisdom, it should also not be done. What is done, that is, what has been accomplished, should not be done. The action that should not be done can lead to Buddhahood. By this, one will surely become a Buddha, this is the concluding word. What is done, that is, what has been accomplished, should be done, if it should be done again. What is done should also be done, then it cannot become the cause of liberation. If one cannot attain Nirvana, what to mention Buddhahood? If one kills me in anger, it is also unreasonable. If one has killed, this is the concluding word. One cannot go against his words, which means one cannot go against his words, this is the concluding word. Knowing, that is, having known. Acting without means, pursuing for women, means craving without celibacy, pursuing for women, this is the concluding word. From the signs of faith, it means that the signs of faith arise, also the monks.
