Moreover, these dharmas each hold their own characteristics, so they are called realms. Like this, the dharmas that are explained in the aggregates are also explained in the context of the sense bases and realms. When explaining the aggregates, the dharmas of the sense bases are also explained, so the sense bases are already included and do not need to be explained separately. When explaining the sense bases, all the dharmas of the realms have already been explained, so there is no need to explain the realms separately. So, what is the need to repeatedly explain these dharmas? To ask: Why? If it is said to explain the aggregates and so on, such words are spoken. All the teachings of the Buddha Bhagavan are for the benefit of sentient beings and are antidotes to afflictions, so they are necessary. Then, what is the need to repeatedly explain those dharmas that are explained in the aggregates with different names such as sense bases and realms? This is the meaning to be expressed. To show that there is a need, it is said, "They are respectively antidotes to the three types of clinging to self." There are three types of clinging to self among the non-Buddhists. To abandon these three types of clinging to self, the aggregates, sense bases, and realms are explained in order, and that is the need. Because it is not known what these three types of clinging to self are, to show what these three are, it is said, "The three types of clinging to self are clinging to one, the eater, and the agent." For the antidote to clinging to one, the five aggregates are explained. If the nature of the five aggregates is understood, there will be no clinging to one. For the antidote to clinging to the eater, the twelve sense bases are explained. If the nature of the twelve sense bases is understood, there will be no clinging to the eater. For the antidote to clinging to the agent, the eighteen realms are explained. If the nature of the eighteen realms is understood, there will be no clinging to the agent. Among them, the Vaisheshika and Samkhya schools, who claim to have a self, hold that this impermanent aggregate, which is a collection of many dharmas, is the only self. Or, those who claim to have a self believe that there is a single "self" separate from the five aggregates, and that this "self" can see forms, hear sounds, smell odors, and taste flavors.

Therefore, starting from experience. Feeling is also felt and experienced by that "I". Grasping objects as signs is also grasped and known by that "I". Virtuous and other actions are also manifestly performed by that "I". Form and other natures, as well as discriminating consciousness, are also known by that "I". Because that "I" is the only constant, it is clung to as the only one. The answer to this is: The substance of sentient beings' bodies, apart from the five aggregates, has no nature of a single "I" to be seen in form and so on. Why? Because form is only seen by the eye itself, and there is no other "I" that sees apart from the eye. Similarly, sound and so on should also be associated with the ear and so on hearing them. Others refute: There is no "I" that sees apart from the eye, but the eye itself sees. If this is said, the eye is made of particles, and if it is of a foolish nature, how can it see form? The answer is: Form is seen by eye consciousness. Because the uncommon cause of eye consciousness seeing form is done by the eye faculty, although it is eye consciousness that sees, it is nominally called the eye that sees. Similarly, because the aggregate of feeling itself is the nature of experiencing, only the aggregate of feeling itself feels and experiences, and there is no other "I" that experiences feeling. Conception is also the nature of grasping the signs of objects, so the signs of objects are also grasped by conception itself, and there is no single "I". Similarly, it should also be associated with other consciousnesses and so on. Similarly, volition also manifestly performs virtuous and non-virtuous actions, so virtuous and non-virtuous actions are only done by volition, not by the single "I" doing virtuous and non-virtuous actions. Consciousness is also the nature of knowing form, sound, and other objects, so form is known by eye consciousness, and dharma is known by mind consciousness, not by the single "I" knowing it, and it should be associated in this way. Therefore, the substance of sentient beings' bodies is the nature of the five aggregates, so form
