Establishment: the nature of being completely imputed, the nature of being dependent on others, and the nature of being perfectly established. Regarding the phenomena of what is grasped and what grasps, the assumption that there are entities of grasping and being grasped is the nature of being completely imputed. The Alaya consciousness is the nature of being dependent on others. The Alaya consciousness, with the defilements of grasping and being grasped purified, becomes the Dharmakaya, which is the nature of being perfectly established. Among these, the Alaya consciousness, with the defilements of grasping and being grasped purified and vanished, becomes the nature of being perfectly complete, and attaining the Dharmakaya is also called the selflessness of phenomena, and also called Suchness. After showing the number and entities of the sense bases, regarding the eye and ear, etc., and form and sound, etc., named as sense bases, not understanding why they are called sense bases, the question is asked, "Why are they called sense bases?" The meaning is to ask, "For the eye and ear, etc., named as sense bases, in what sense are they called sense bases?" The answer to this is, "Because they are the doors of the arising of consciousness," meaning that the doors of consciousness are the nature of the arising and production of consciousness. The term "doors of the arising of consciousness" means that the arising of consciousness is the cause, condition, and place of arising. Because the eye, etc., become the cause, condition, and place for the arising of consciousness, therefore the eye, etc., are called sense bases. If so, what else is revealed? In the Sutra, as the definition of sense bases, it is said, "The mind and mental factors are the cause of arising and increasing, therefore they are called sense bases." Therefore, the eye and form are the door and cause of the arising of eye consciousness and its retinue of mental factors, so they are called the eye sense base and the form sense base, up to the mind and phenomena being the door and cause of the arising of mind consciousness and its retinue, so they are called the mind sense base and the phenomena sense base. The explanation of the twelve sense bases is complete. In the Sutra Pitaka, after the twelve sense bases, the eighteen elements are explained.

Therefore, in accordance with the sutras, here also, after the ayatanas, the dhatus should be explained. So, how many dhatus are there? In order to show what they actually are, and why they are called dhatus, it is said, "The eighteen dhatus," meaning that there are eighteen dhatus. In order to show what they actually are, it is said from "eye-dhatu" to "mind-consciousness-dhatu." Among them, the five, eye-dhatu, ear-dhatu, nose-dhatu, tongue-dhatu, body-dhatu, and the color-dhatu, sound-dhatu, smell-dhatu, taste-dhatu, touch-dhatu, in order to show what these ten dhatus are, it is said, "The eye-etc. dhatus and the color-etc. dhatus are just like the ayatanas," meaning that when explaining the form aggregate, among the eleven forms that are the cause, eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body are said to be the faculties, and color, sound, smell, taste, and touch are said to be the five objects. When explaining the ayatanas, the eye-etc. faculties themselves are said to be the ayatanas from eye-ayatana to body-ayatana, and the five objects, color-etc., are said to be the five ayatanas from color-ayatana to touch-ayatana. When explaining the dhatus, these ten ayatanas themselves are called the ten dhatus, that is, the eye-ayatana is called the eye-dhatu, the ear-ayatana is called the ear-dhatu, the nose-ayatana is called the nose-dhatu, the tongue-ayatana is called the tongue-dhatu, the body-ayatana is called the body-dhatu, the color-ayatana is called the color-dhatu, the sound-ayatana is called the sound-dhatu, and so on until the touch-ayatana is called the touch-dhatu. Therefore, it is said, "The eye-etc. dhatus and the color-etc. dhatus are just like the ayatanas." The so-called dharma-dhatu, in the case of the dharma-ayatana, in addition to the three aggregates of feeling, perception, and formation, there is also non-revealing form.

English

Adding four more, and the four unconditioned dharmas, these eight are called the sphere of dharmas, and these eight dharmas themselves are called the realm of dharmas. When explaining the spheres, the aggregate of consciousness, that is, the eight consciousnesses, are called the sphere of mind. When explaining the realms, the eight dharmas gathered in the sphere of mind should not be called the realm of mind, but when explaining the realms, they should be called the seven realms of mind. Therefore, in order to show that meaning, it is said that the six realms of consciousness rely on the eye and so on, and recognize objects such as form. Among them, relying on the eye and so on, means that these six from the realm of eye consciousness to the realm of mind consciousness rely on the six spheres from the sphere of eye to the sphere of mind. Eye consciousness relies on the sphere of eye, until mind consciousness relies on the sphere of mind, so it is said that the six realms of consciousness exist relying on the eye and so on. Recognizing objects such as form, means that the objects of the six consciousnesses such as the realm of eye consciousness are form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas. The so-called object refers to recognizing the nature of these objects, from the eye consciousness that recognizes the nature of form being called the realm of eye consciousness, until the mind consciousness that recognizes the nature of dharmas being called the realm of mind consciousness. After explaining the seventeen realms in this way, some people think, is the so-called realm of mind referring to these six consciousnesses themselves, or is it referring to another realm of mind other than these? In fact, these six consciousnesses themselves are called the realm of mind, and there is no other realm of mind other than these. It is said that "the realm of mind is just after they cease," meaning that these six realms of consciousness are called the realm of mind just after they have ceased before, and there is no other realm of mind other than these. Refutation: The previous consciousness ceases and is called the realm of mind
