Since the undefiled previous aggregate body is the corresponding cause for the arising of the undefiled subsequent aggregate body, the undefiled subsequent aggregate body is what arises. Therefore, if afflictions are removed by antidotes, the undefiled subsequent aggregate body arises, but the afflicted subsequent aggregate body does not arise, so it is said that antidotes do not produce aggregates. This is called individual self-nature cessation. Now, it will be explained how, in the form and formless realms, afflictions are abandoned by the antidotes to afflictions, and aggregates are not produced. Among these, first, in the form realm, there are nine afflictions to be abandoned by seeing suffering: subtracting anger from the previous ten afflictions, namely, view of the perishable aggregate, extreme view, wrong view, view of holding views as supreme, view of holding moral discipline and asceticism as supreme, doubt, desire, pride, and ignorance. There are six afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the origin: view of the perishable aggregate, extreme view, view of holding moral discipline and asceticism as supreme, and applying the four kinds of anger, namely, wrong view, view of holding views as supreme, doubt, desire, pride, and ignorance. There are six afflictions to be abandoned by seeing cessation, which are the same six mentioned earlier. There are seven afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the path: wrong view, view of holding views as supreme, view of holding moral discipline and asceticism as supreme, doubt, desire, pride, and ignorance. In total, there are twenty-eight afflictions to be abandoned by seeing in the form realm. The afflictions to be abandoned by meditation in the form realm, the three—desire, pride, and ignorance—are divided into nine types, such as the greatest of the great. In the formless realm, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the four truths are also the same as in the form realm, totaling twenty-eight. The afflictions to be abandoned by meditation in the formless realm are also the same as in the form realm, divided into nine types from the three—desire, pride, and ignorance. The antidotes for abandoning the afflictions to be abandoned by meditation in the two realms are also four: suffering.
