A: There are two necessities for that. First, the characteristics of the four great elements have already been explained above, so there is no need to explain them here and they are omitted. Second, this is the occasion to explain form as the cause, not the occasion to explain the four great elements, so it is omitted. Question: The four great elements have already been explained above, so there is no need to explain them now, but is it okay not to mention them? Answer: It is also not possible not to mention them, because it must also be shown that the four great elements also belong to the tangible object of the body. In this way, there are two types of tangible objects, namely the four great elements and the seven types such as roughness that arise from the cause of the four great elements. Among them, softness is gentleness, not roughness, and can endure touch. Roughness is not gentle and cannot endure touch. Heaviness is due to its power, the head of the scale tilts downwards. Lightness is that although the volume is large, the weight cannot overcome the small heavy object, and the head of the scale is high and the tail is tilted downwards. Coldness is wanting warmth when approaching it. Hunger is the desire to eat arises. Thirst is the desire to drink arises. Refutation: The desire to eat and the desire to drink are dharmas that arise from the mind, so how can they be placed in the category of tangible objects of the body's root realm, as dharmas that arise from the four great elements? Answer: This is establishing the result on the cause, for example: The appearance of the Buddha is happiness, and teaching the Dharma is also happiness. It is said like this. This verse is also establishing the result on the cause. The Buddha's appearance and birth in the world is said to be suffering in all births, so it is not happiness. However, the Buddha's appearance in the world, from the cause of proclaiming the holy Dharma, sentient beings will obtain the result of good rebirth and nirvana, therefore, the good rebirth of gods and humans and the result of nirvana are established on the cause of the Buddha's appearance, so it is said: The appearance of the Buddha is happiness. Teaching the Dharma is also, although it must be done with great effort, so it is not happiness, but from that cause, the happiness of obtaining the result of good rebirth and nirvana arises, so the result is established on the cause of teaching the Dharma, so it is said: Teaching the Dharma is also happiness.

Thus it was said. Similarly, if the element of wind increases, a tactile difference of stomach adhesion will occur in the abdomen, which will cause the desire to eat. Stomach adhesion is the cause of wanting to eat, and wanting to eat is its result. The name of the result of wanting to eat is placed on the cause, so it is said that stomach adhesion is wanting to eat. Similarly, if the element of fire increases, a tactile difference of bladder adhesion will occur in the abdomen, which will cause the desire to drink. Among them, bladder adhesion is its cause, and wanting to drink is the result. The name of the result of wanting to drink is placed on bladder adhesion, so it is said to be wanting to drink. Because the result is placed on the cause, there is no fault. Among them, the elements of water and fire are mostly soft, the elements of earth and wind are mostly rough, the elements of earth and water are mostly heavy, the elements of fire and wind are mostly light, the elements of water and wind are mostly cold, the element of wind is mostly dry, and the element of fire is mostly warm. The five objects have been explained. In order to show the characteristics of non-manifestation (rnam par rig byed ma yin pa), it is asked what is non-manifestation? This is to ask what is the meaning of the characteristics of non-manifestation. In order to show what is the cause of non-manifestation and what is its nature, it is said that manifestation and the form arising from samadhi are invisible and unobstructed. Manifestation and samadhi are the cause of non-manifestation, and its nature is invisible and unobstructed. Among them, there are two types of manifestation: physical manifestation and verbal manifestation. There are also three types of physical manifestation: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. Among them, not killing, not stealing, and not engaging in sexual misconduct are the virtuous physical manifestations. Killing, stealing, and engaging in sexual misconduct are the non-virtuous physical manifestations. Drawing, sewing, and other skillful activities are the neutral physical manifestations.
