For the sake of the teachings, if asked, what is the body's sense faculty? This is asking what the characteristics of the body's sense faculty are. In response to this question, the phrase "the object of touch is form" is mentioned, meaning that the object of the body's sense faculty is touch, such as softness and roughness. Just like glass and mirrors, form is clear and visible, and this is because it is the cause of the arising of the body's consciousness. Its particles, like skin or leather, are present throughout the body. Some say that it is like the color of beryl, rising from the center of the body, and when a touch occurs, it flows there. What is the meaning of sense faculty? The meaning of possessing or controlling is the meaning of sense faculty. What does it control? It controls its respective objects, such as form. For example, the eye's sense faculty sees form, but the ear's sense faculty and other sense faculties do not see it; sound is heard by the ear's sense faculty, but the eye and other sense faculties do not hear it. Therefore, they control their respective objects. The five sense faculties have been explained. Now, the five objects will be explained again. Among them, In order to show the characteristics of form, if asked, what is form? This is asking what the characteristics of form are. The answer is "the object of the eye," meaning that form is the object of the eye's sense faculty and the eye's consciousness, but not the object of other sense faculties such as the ear. This is to show its non-commonality. In order to show how many categories form has, the phrase "color, shape, and recognizable form" is mentioned. If form, which is the object of the eye, is categorized, there are three: color, shape, and recognizable form. Someone asked: Why are the objects of form divided into three types to explain? The answer is to make it clear to those who have doubts, have inverted attachments, and do not understand the detailed classification of form that form is divided into three types. Therefore, in order to show this, form is divided into three types: color, shape, and recognizable form. Among them, doubt refers to having doubts about whether color, shape, and recognizable form are form or not. Inverted attachment refers to thinking that color, shape, and recognizable form are not form, and that what is called form is

Thinking that there is something else. If ignorance is divided into form, how many kinds are there? What is meant by "form" that is not understood? By explaining that these are color, shape, and manifestation, doubt, wrong views, and ignorance will be eliminated. Therefore, form is divided into three types and explained. Among them, if color is classified, there are fourteen types: blue, yellow, red, white, cloud, smoke, dust, fog, shadow, sunlight, light, darkness, unobstructed, and sky. Among them, fog refers to the southern fog. Shadow refers to the place where an object appears. Sunlight refers to the rays of the sun. Light refers to the light of the moon, stars, medicine, and jewels. Darkness refers to the place where an object does not appear. Unobstructed refers to having no obstruction, with nothing obstructing between obstructing objects. Sky refers to the place above emptiness that appears blue. The remaining easier ones are not explained because they are easy to express directly. There are eight shapes: long, short, square, round, high, low, flat, and uneven. Among them, long and short are relative. For example, relative to the father, one is called the son; relative to the son, one is called the father. Similarly, relative to long, one is called short; relative to short, one is called long. Square refers to a complete circle or square. Round refers to being round. High refers to high places such as mountains. Low refers to low places such as wells. Flat refers to a surface without undulations, a flat place. Uneven refers to an uneven shape, a place with undulations. Manifestation refers to the actions of the body, such as joining palms and prostrating, due to being accustomed to virtuous Dharma in previous lives; the actions of the body, such as clenching fists and hitting, due to being accustomed to non-virtuous Dharma in previous lives, are called manifestation. Why is it called manifestation? Because through the actions of the body, such as joining palms, others can know that he has generated joy; through the actions of the body, such as clenching fists, others can know that his mind is full of anger.
