And these five, at the time of the source of arising, are also called the source of arising of the eye, the source of arising of the ear, the source of arising of the nose, the source of arising of the tongue, and the source of arising of the body, thus establishing the source of arising. The nature of these sources of arising should also be explained as it was explained in the case of the senses. How so? What is the source of arising of the eye? It is the object, color and form. What is the source of arising of the ear? It is the object, sound and form. What is the source of arising of the nose? It is the object, smell and form. What is the source of arising of the tongue? It is the object, taste and form. What is the source of arising of the body? It is the object, touch and form. In the case of the aggregate of form, four things were mentioned: form, sound, smell, and taste. But in the case of the source of arising, four sources of arising are established: the source of arising of form, the source of arising of sound, the source of arising of smell, and the source of arising of taste. Their nature should also be explained here as it was explained in the case of the aggregate of form. How so? What is the source of arising of form? It is the object of the eye: color, shape, and that which can be distinguished. What is the source of arising of sound? It is the object of the ear: that which is apprehended and that which is not apprehended, and both, that is, that which arises from the cause of the four great elements. What is the source of arising of smell? It is the object of the nose: fragrance, non-fragrance, and other than that. What is the source of arising of taste? It is the object of the tongue: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy, and astringent, it should be said. The source of arising of touch, also, in order to show that in the explanation of the aggregate of form, the explanation of touch itself is the source of arising of touch, it is said that the source of arising of touch is the four great elements, and one aspect of what is touched. Above, in the explanation of the aggregate of form, on top of the cause of the four great elements, which is the cause of the touch of the body, adding the seven touches that are the cause: softness, roughness, heaviness, lightness, coldness, hunger, and thirst, these eleven are the source of arising of touch. After explaining the characteristics of the ten sources of arising, in order to explain what is the source of arising of mind.

The sense base is referred to as the aggregate of consciousness. When explaining the aggregate of consciousness, it is said that the eight consciousnesses are called the aggregate of consciousness, and these eight consciousnesses are called the sense base of mind. These eight consciousnesses are also the six active consciousnesses, plus the alaya consciousness and the afflicted mind, making eight. Therefore, when explaining the sense bases, the aggregate of consciousness is called the sense base of mind. To show that the eight dharmas are called the sense base of dharmas, the sense base of dharmas refers to feeling, perception, volition, non-form, and the unconditioned. There are eight kinds of sense bases of dharmas, namely feeling, perception, volition, non-form, and four unconditioned dharmas, making eight in total. Among them, the nature of feeling, perception, the aggregate of volition, and non-form, etc., has already been explained in the previous explanation of the aggregates, so it will not be explained now. Because the unconditioned has not been explained in the explanation of the aggregates, now, in order to explain the nature of the unconditioned, and to explain what the four unconditioned dharmas are, it is asked: What is the unconditioned? The answer is: space, non-analytical cessation, analytical cessation, and suchness. Among them, the nature that arises from the power of the causes and conditions of karma and afflictions is called conditioned, and the nature that does not depend on the causes and conditions of karma and afflictions is called unconditioned, namely the four, space, etc. Among them, because one does not know what the nature of space is, and wants to understand its nature, one asks: What is space? The meaning is to ask what the nature of space is? The answer is: it is the opening for form. It means that the place where obstructive forms exist, and the place that does not cause obstruction, that place is the place where obstructive forms have gaps between each other. Therefore, the gap in which forms move between each other is called space. Also,
