Arise. The seeds of afflictions and near afflictions reside in the alaya consciousness, and the mind consciousness that arises together with the alaya consciousness, transformed into the noble path, thereby abandoning and eliminating the habitual tendencies in the alaya consciousness. Therefore, both the antidote and the afflictions must arise from their respective places. The alaya consciousness is the place of all afflictive habitual tendencies. The mind consciousness at that time is transformed into the path, and these mind consciousnesses that are transformed into the path abandon and eliminate the afflictive habitual tendencies in the alaya consciousness, so it should be acknowledged. Thus, if the habitual tendencies of afflictions and near afflictions in the alaya consciousness are destroyed by the noble path, then afflictions and near afflictions will no longer arise from that alaya consciousness, therefore it is called obtaining the realm of nirvana with remainder. Thus, because of abandoning the afflictions, this life, which was thrown by other lifetimes, also ceases, and the aggregates are also abandoned, no longer connecting the boundary of rebirth into other lifetimes, and not taking aggregates, therefore it is called obtaining the realm of nirvana having completely abandoned the remainder of aggregates. Thus, because there is alaya consciousness, it is possible to enter and return to samsara. If there is no alaya consciousness, it is impossible to enter and return to samsara, therefore it must be undoubtedly acknowledged that there is alaya consciousness. It is established by scripture and reasoning that there is alaya consciousness, thereby there is no dispute. In order to explain why the alaya consciousness is called the alaya consciousness, therefore it is said that the alaya consciousness itself is the alaya consciousness of all seeds. Because it knows its own object, therefore it is consciousness. Knowing the object is also entirely known by the alaya consciousness, and apart from that, there is no agent of knowing and agent etc., because there is no self, therefore it is called the alaya consciousness itself. The so-called alaya consciousness of all seeds refers to the seeds of all afflictions such as desire, as existence and support, therefore it is called alaya consciousness, alaya consciousness, existence and support, the meaning is the same.

It is merely a different name. Alternatively, it is called Ālaya because it is the place of the seeds of all dharmas that are unobscured and not shown, obscured and not shown, virtuous, non-virtuous, with outflows, and without outflows, and because it acts as the basis for everything. Alternatively, Ālaya refers to the object, because it is the object of the afflicted mind, it is called Ālaya. Alternatively, the meaning of the word Ālaya refers to mixing, relating, or entering, that is, the Ālaya-vijñāna mixes and relates to all dharmas in the nature of the entity of the fruit, so it is called Ālaya, or the Ālaya mixes and relates to all dharmas in the entity of the cause, so it is called Ālaya. Among them, mixing and relating to all dharmas in the nature of the fruit means that when virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas leave impressions on the Ālaya, the Ālaya becomes a special characteristic with impressions, therefore dharmas are the cause and the Ālaya is the fruit, in this way the Ālaya mixes and relates to dharmas in the entity of the fruit. The Ālaya mixes and relates to dharmas in the entity of the cause means that when dharmas arise from the impressions of the Ālaya, the Ālaya remains like the cause and the dharmas remain like the fruit, therefore the Ālaya mixes and relates to all dharmas in the entity of the cause. In order to explain other meanings of the word Ālaya, it is said that it is the Ālaya and cause of the body and the place where the body resides. Among them, the Ālaya of the body refers to feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, that is, the four mental aggregates and the form aggregate, these five aggregates are called the body. The body also resides in the Ālaya, relies on the Ālaya, and arises continuously through the power of the Ālaya, because it is the abode and basis of the body, it is also called Ālaya. Because it is the cause and support of the body, it is called Ālaya, how is this understood? The seeds of the five aggregates exist in the Ālaya and grow, and in the mother's womb, the Ālaya-vijñāna connects, and the body arises and accomplishes name and form, this is done by the Ālaya, therefore it is also the cause of the body, so it is called Ālaya.
