That is because of clinging to the four aggregates as self; in reality, the five aggregates are called the body. When the five aggregates of each are all the same, it is called a similar body. For example, humans are similar to humans in terms of the five aggregates, gods are similar to gods in terms of the five aggregates, and animals are similar to animals in terms of the five aggregates, which is called a similar class. If we differentiate this, it is not only when the five aggregates are the same that it is called a similar class, but also when the attire and behavior of individual kings are the same, it is called a similar class. Men are similar to men in attire, women are similar to women in attire, hermaphrodites are similar to hermaphrodites in attire, monks are similar to monks in attire, nuns are similar to nuns in attire, male lay practitioners are similar to male lay practitioners in attire, and female lay practitioners are similar to female lay practitioners in attire. Even among animals, if we differentiate internally, horses are similar to horses in attire, and so on, which is called similar attire. Thus, when the five aggregates are the same, it is called a similar class, so a similar class is merely designated upon the occasion of form, mind, and mental events arising, but it does not exist as a real entity. In order to show the nature of birth, one asks, "What is birth?" This is actually asking what the nature and characteristics of birth are. As an answer to this, it is mentioned, "Those of the same class arise from the non-arisen of conditioned phenomena," where "who" means "which sentient being." "Of the same class" means that the five aggregates of each sentient being are the same, and due to the impetus of karma from previous lives, the five aggregates arise, which is called birth. Mentioning the same class is because there are two types of conditioned phenomena: external conditioned phenomena such as grass and trees, and internal conditioned phenomena such as the five aggregates. Here, it is considered that the arising of internal conditioned phenomena is called birth, but the arising of external conditioned phenomena is not included within the birth spoken of here. To this, the Hearer-Abhidharmikas think that apart from the five aggregates arising and ceasing, not arising and being future, and not decaying and being present, there exists a separate real entity called "birth." In order to eliminate this view, it is said, "Arise from the non-arisen of conditioned phenomena," where "conditioned phenomena" refers to the aggregates.

It refers to the five aggregates. Among similar types, the arising of the five aggregates after they have not arisen before is merely designated as birth. Apart from that, there is no separate substance of birth existing elsewhere. That is the meaning. To show the nature of aging, the question is asked, 'What is aging?' This is asking what the nature and characteristics of aging are. In response to that, it is said, 'Thus, the continuity of those changes.' 'Thus' means as explained above, the arising of the five aggregates in similar types. 'Of those' refers to the five aggregates. 'Continuity' refers to the connection of consciousness in the mother's womb, starting from fainting, and gradually arising as blurry, soft, sticky, congealed, limbs appearing, child, youth, adulthood, aging, and so on. Finally, up to the state of death, the aggregates exist momentarily. The earlier moments are the cause, and the later moments are the result. The uninterrupted flow of these moments is called continuity. Or, the earlier blurry state is the cause, and the later soft state is the result. Existing as cause and effect without interruption is called continuity. The arising of a later nature that is different from the earlier nature is called change. That is, from the blurry time to the soft time there is change, from the child's time to the youth's time there is change, from the time of adulthood to the time of aging there is change, which is called aging. That is the meaning. Just as the change from blurry to soft is designated as aging, similarly, the blurry state also has many moments. The arising of a later moment that is different from the earlier moment is called change, and it is also called aging. Thus, the change in the continuity of the five aggregates is designated as aging. Therefore, this aging is merely a designation for the time of form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness, and it is not a separate existing substance. That is what is being shown. Therefore, designating aging as the change in continuity, the Sravaka Abhidharmikas
