So, initially, when entering into meditative absorption, both perception and feeling are expelled. After expelling both perception and feeling, the mind becomes increasingly subtle, and this mind enters into the six consciousnesses of the ālaya-vijñāna, and the seed of the afflicted mind that exists is weakened. Because the seed is weakened, the six consciousnesses that enter into the ālaya and the afflicted mind will not arise. In this way, the weakening of the seed of the ālaya is called the cessation meditative absorption, so it is only established in the stage of mind, and it does not exist as a real entity. What is the difference between the non-perception meditative absorption and the cessation meditative absorption? There are five differences: namely, the person, the ground, the mental engagement, the nature, and the establishment. Among them, the non-perception meditative absorption is entered into by ordinary beings, while the cessation meditative absorption is entered into by noble ones, so there is a difference in terms of the person. The non-perception meditative absorption is entered into by those who have abandoned the desire for the realm of desire, but have not abandoned the desire for the higher realms, and after dying from it, they will be reborn among the gods of the Great Fruit. The cessation meditative absorption is entered into by those who have abandoned the desire for the realm of nothingness, and who strive to abandon the afflictions of the peak of existence, and the ground also belongs to the peak of existence, so there is a difference in terms of the ground. The non-perception meditative absorption is entered into by mental engagement that is preceded by the perception of arising, while the cessation meditative absorption is entered into by mental engagement that is preceded by the perception of abiding, so there is a difference in terms of mental engagement. At the time of the non-perception meditative absorption, the six consciousnesses and their retinue are of the nature of cessation up to the non-abiding mind. In the cessation meditative absorption, the afflicted mind is added on top of the six consciousnesses, and the seven consciousnesses and their retinue are of the nature of cessation, so there is a difference in terms of nature. The non-perception meditative absorption is established on the distinction of the form realm, while the cessation meditative absorption is on the distinction of the mind.

Applying 'ra' is applying with distinction. (In order to) show the nature of non-perception. If asked, what is non-perception? It means asking what is the nature and characteristics of non-perception? As an answer to that, it is said, 'the result of the meditative absorption of non-perception,' etc. If a person enters into the meditative absorption of non-perception in the desire realm, and dies from there, and is thrown by that karma, they will obtain the fruition of non-perception, therefore, non-perception is called the result of the meditative absorption of non-perception. If asked, what is that result in reality? Therefore, it is said, 'born among the gods of non-perceptual beings.' The fourth dhyana has eight abodes, cloudless, merit-increasing, and great fruit are the lands of ordinary beings, while non-great, non-affliction, abundant appearance, extremely visible, and Akanistha are the lands of the noble ones. Among them, the last of the third abode of the fourth dhyana's ordinary beings is called the Great Fruit Heaven. In one direction where the gods reside, the non-perceptual gods reside there. Being born among those gods is the result of the fruition of the meditative absorption of non-perception. At that time, if mind and mental factors cease, which of the two, the stable and unstable mind and mental factors, are eliminated? Therefore, it is said, 'what eliminates the non-abiding dharmas of mind and mental factors?' Those born in the non-perceptual heavens, when they are first born, a thought arises. After that, the unstable mind and mental factors, on their own body, when the unstable mind and mental factors destroy the seeds of the unstable mind and mental factors that are similar to the arising of their own kind in the future, first a subtle mind arises. After that, an even more subtle mind arises. After that, an extremely subtle mind arises, becoming extremely subtle, and that last mind cannot connect the arising of another mind. Why? Because it has weakened the power of the seeds of mind and mental factors that are present on its own body, so that last mind cannot generate another mind similar to itself.
