The sphere of nothingness and the sphere of infinite consciousness, as well as the sphere of no-thingness, and the cessation that transcends the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, when it abandons the afflictions and desires below the sphere of nothingness, it is called being free from the desire of the sphere of nothingness. The noble one who is free from the desire of the sphere of nothingness strives to abandon the afflictions of the peak of existence, the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and from striving to abandon afflictions, it is called going upward from the peak of existence. Regarding this, when ordinary beings enter the worldly path, even if they have not abandoned the desire of the peak of existence, there are cases where they have abandoned the desire of the sphere of nothingness, so it is said to go upward from the peak of existence. When ordinary beings enter the worldly path, even if they have abandoned the desire of the sphere of nothingness, they have not abandoned even a little of the afflictions of the peak of existence, which are abandoned by the path of seeing and the path of cultivation, so the phrase "going upward from the peak of existence" explains that ordinary beings cannot enter the cessation. Some people, although they have abandoned the desire of the peak of existence that is abandoned by the path of seeing, have not abandoned the afflictions of the sphere of nothingness that are abandoned by the path of cultivation. What are they? They are the noble truths of those who abide in the fruit of stream-entry and those who abide in the fruit of once-returner. They have abandoned the afflictions of the peak of existence that are abandoned by the path of seeing, so they go upward from the peak of existence, but they have not even abandoned the afflictions of the desire realm that are abandoned by the path of cultivation, so they have not abandoned what is abandoned by the path of cultivation of the sphere of nothingness. Therefore, it is said to be free from the desire of the sphere of nothingness. In reality, only the noble ones who have attained the fruit of non-returner and the fruit of arhat can enter the cessation, while the noble ones who abide in the fruit of stream-entry and the fruit of once-returner, as well as ordinary beings

This shows that they cannot enter the cessation attainment. If ordinary people first generate the thought of arising and then enter the non-perceptual attainment, then what kind of thought or idea do the noble ones first generate in order to enter the cessation attainment? Therefore, it is said, "With the mind preceding the idea of abiding," the noble ones' cessation attainment is not like the non-perceptual attainment, where they first generate the thought of arising in the cessation attainment and then enter the cessation attainment, but rather they first generate the thought of abiding and then enter the cessation attainment. Why don't they first generate the thought of cessation in the cessation attainment? Because the cessation attainment belongs to the peak of existence, and existence belongs to the three realms, and the noble ones do not generate the thought of arising and ultimately arising in the three realms. So, what kind of thought do they generate? Like the non-returners and arhats, they are weary of feelings and thoughts, so when they first enter into samadhi, feelings and thoughts are sickness, tumors, and pain. This cessation without feelings and thoughts is not the essence of nirvana, but it is as happy as nirvana, and they first generate the thought of wanting to stay in this happiness for a moment, and then generate the subtle mind of the peak of existence, and then make it even more subtle, and then generate an extremely subtle mind, thereby realizing the nature of all minds ceasing, which is the cessation attainment, hence it is called "with the mind preceding the idea of abiding." Mind and mental factors are divided into two types: stable and unstable. What ceases when entering the cessation attainment? Therefore, it is said, "Unstable mind and mental factors," unstable mind and mental factors refer to the mental factors from eye consciousness to mind consciousness.

It should be classified into the six arising retinues: If the noble yogi non-returner or Arhat relies on the desire realm, form realm, and formless realm to enter cessation, then the entering six consciousnesses, four consciousnesses, and one consciousness will cease in order. Among them, if one who has attained the fruit of non-return or an Arhat relies on all the places of the desire realm to enter cessation, then the entering six consciousnesses up to the non-abiding mind will cease. If the yogi non-returner or Arhat relies on all the places of the form realm to enter cessation, then the eye, ear, body, and mind, these entering four consciousnesses will cease, because at that time they have already abandoned the desire for eating food bit by bit, so there is no nose consciousness and tongue consciousness. If those yogis rely on the formless realm to enter cessation, then the entering one consciousness will cease, because mind consciousness has ceased, so it should be said what ceases among the non-abiding mind and mental factors. Among them, at the time of entering cessation, only the unstable mind and mental factors cease, or does the stable one not cease? In order to show that the stable one also ceases, it is said, "What ceases among the stable ones?" There are two kinds of abiding mind and mental factors, namely, the Alaya consciousness and the afflicted mind. The meaning is that one stable one and its retinue will cease. Here, among the two stable minds, although it is not specifically pointed out that only this one ceases at the time of entering cessation, it should be known that the afflicted mind will cease at that time. Thus, if the yogi dwells in the desire realm and enters samadhi, then adding the afflicted mind to the above entering six consciousnesses, seven will cease. If entering the form realm, then adding the afflicted mind to the above four, five will cease. If entering the formless realm, then adding the afflicted mind to the mind consciousness, two will cease. Therefore, this cessation is also established on the difference of the time of mind, that's all. How
