It is also like not postulating them as different. Just as a pot and earth cannot be postulated as being of one nature. A pot has a round belly, is slender and elongated, and has a shape that functions to hold water, while the shape of earth exists in a different way. Therefore, it cannot be postulated as being one with earth, nor can it be postulated that the pot is different, because the pot is made from earth. Similarly, it cannot be postulated that a finger and a fist are one. If a finger and a fist were one, then when extending the fingers, each finger should also appear to have a shape like a fist. But when extending the fingers, each finger does not appear to have a shape like a fist, so it cannot be postulated as one. Nor can it be postulated that a finger and a fist are different, because a fist is formed from the gathering of fingers. Similarly, here also, the basis is form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness. The dependent are the mental formations (འདུ་བྱེད།, saṃskāra, constructor) and non-associated compositional factors. Form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness, and mental formations and non-associated compositional factors cannot be postulated as one, just as a pot and water cannot be one. It is reasonable that the nature of the basis and the dependent cannot be one. Form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness, and mental formations and non-associated compositional factors cannot be said to be different. If they were different, then mental formations and non-associated compositional factors would not need to rely on form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness, and could arise even without relying on them. But if mental formations and non-associated compositional factors do not rely on form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness, they do not arise, so it cannot be postulated that they are different. If someone asks: What are mental formations and non-associated compositional factors? The answer is: They can be postulated when form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness exist, and cannot be postulated as neither this nor that. These are only indicated in general, but specifically, because their names are not known, wanting to understand the specifics, the question is asked: What are these? That is, what are the mental formations and non-associated compositional factors that can be postulated when form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness exist, and cannot be postulated as neither this nor that?

In response to this, the words "attainment" and so on are mentioned, and it shows things that have such qualities. Things that have such qualities are things that have the same nature or similar kinds as the dharmas mentioned by name such as attainment. In addition, when form, mind, and mental events arise, they can also be classified as formations that are not in accordance with the mind. What are these things? What is not mentioned here is entering, individual determination, combination, speed, order, time, place, number, collection, and so on. In order to show the nature of attainment, the question is asked, "What is attainment?" The meaning is to ask what the nature of attainment is like among those formations that are not in accordance with the mind. In response to this, it is mentioned, "Having attainment and possessing." It means that for good or bad dharmas that were not previously attained and that one did not possess, the state of initially attaining them is called attainment. In this way, after attaining good or bad dharmas that were not previously attained in the first moment, from the second moment onwards, the state of possessing those dharmas and possessing them is called possessing. In this way, both attainment and possession are called attainment, which is what is to be shown. In order to show how many kinds of attainment can be divided into, it is mentioned, "It can also be combined with seeds, abilities, and manifestations as appropriate." It means that attainment can also be divided into three types, namely seed attainment, ability attainment, and manifestation attainment. Among them, seed attainment refers to the fact that in order to generate good, bad, and neutral dharmas that are similar to oneself in the future, good, bad, and neutral dharmas are the cause of consciousness, and the actions of good, bad, and neutral dharmas create and leave imprints, which is called seed attainment. In this way, by creating the cause, it becomes strong, able to produce its own fruit, becomes powerful, so that nothing else can hinder it, the last moment of being able to produce the fruit, although the fruit has not yet been produced, but is in the nature of being able to produce the fruit, this is called ability attainment. Then, from there arises its own
