The function of conceptualization has been explained. Then, from where does conceptualization arise? Therefore, the distinction between mind and wisdom is mentioned. Mind is the nature of agitating and moving the mind, while wisdom is the nature of distinguishing "this is a merit, this is a fault." Therefore, the conceptualization of the mind also arises from the influence of these two. Since conceptualization is established by the difference between mind and wisdom, it should be understood that this conceptualization is not substantial but exists as an imputation. Among them, sometimes conceptualization is established between mind and mind, that is, when conceptualization is in a state of non-conceptualization. Sometimes conceptualization is established between wisdom and mind, that is, when conceptualization enters a state of conceptualization. Or, conceptualization is established on mind and wisdom themselves, because from the influence of these two, detailed conceptualizations such as "this is a vase, this is a felt" will arise. Or, conceptualization is established only on the mind, that is, when conceptualization is in a state of non-conceptualization. Or, conceptualization is established only on wisdom, that is, when conceptualization enters a state of conceptualization. What is called a coarse mind refers to not delving into details such as whether the inside of the vase is red, good, or bad, but only generally distinguishing "this is a vase, this is a felt," so it is called a coarse mind. This explains the nature of conceptualization. Moreover, there are three types of conceptualization: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. Among them, conceptualizing the dharmas that arise from the three realms is virtuous conceptualization. Conceptualizing the qualities of the five desirable objects is non-virtuous conceptualization. Conceptualizing various crafts is neutral conceptualization. Or, its function also has two aspects: acting as the basis for being in happiness and unhappiness. Among them, conceptualizing the dharmas that arise from the three realms, because it is virtuous, will become the cause of happiness, so it acts as the basis for being in happiness. Conceptualizing the qualities of the five desirable objects, because it will become the cause of non-virtue, so it acts as the basis for being in unhappiness. In order to explain the nature of examination, the question is asked, "What is examination?" The meaning is to ask what the nature and characteristics of examination are.

In response to that, discriminating examination is expressed by the mind. Similarly, the phrase "whatever mind is subtle" is stated. Previously, through examination, it was determined that "this is a vase, this is felt," and later, within the vase, is it red? Is it black? Is this side of the vase red? This vase is good, this is not good, like this, to make a detailed analysis is called discriminating examination. That discriminating examination is also expressed by the mind, meaning that it is the nature of the mind's consciousness to examine and discriminate in detail. The term "expressed by the mind" means to speak in detail in the mind. For example, just as words express the reality of things, the mind also speaks and examines in detail, "This vase is good, this is not good," therefore it is called expressed by the mind, which indicates its function. So, on what is this analysis to be established? Therefore, the word "similarly" is stated. Just as examination is established on the mind and mental factors, and the difference of wisdom, this analysis is also established on the difference of mind and wisdom, because it arises from those very parts, so it should be understood that this analysis is not substantially existent, but nominally existent. Among them, sometimes analysis is established on the mind and mental factors, that is, when the analysis is in a state of not analyzing. Sometimes analysis is established on both mind and wisdom, that is, when the analysis is in a state of analyzing. Or, analysis is established only on the mind, that is, when the analysis is in a state of not analyzing. Or, analysis is established only on wisdom, that is, when the analysis is in a state of detailed analysis. The term "whatever mind is subtle" refers to after previously examining and merely determining it to be a vase, analyzing "this is good inside the vase, this is not good," like this, making subtle examinations, therefore it is called subtle mind, which shows its nature. There are also three types of analysis: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. Among them, if one wants to benefit other sentient beings, one examines using this method and that method to benefit them, like this, examining various ways to benefit others, this is virtuous analysis. Examining various methods to harm others, that

Thinking about it is not good. Detailed observation of the places of craftsmanship such as sewing is unmentioned in the scriptures. Alternatively, this action also serves as a basis for being in a state of happiness and unhappiness. That is, thinking about various methods of benefiting others becomes a cause of happiness, so it serves as a basis for being in a state of happiness. Thinking about ways to harm others becomes a cause of unhappiness, so it serves as a basis for being in a state of unhappiness. If both thought and discernment are similar in being established as distinctions of mind and wisdom, what is the difference? Answer: There is a difference between the two. Although both are similar in being established as distinctions of mind and wisdom, thought is the nature of a coarse mind, and discernment is the nature of a subtle mind. Four, it has already been explained elsewhere. Earlier, when explaining the aggregate of formations, the question was asked, "What are the formations?" The answer was, "Other than feeling and perception, the nature of phenomena arising from the mind and the nature of non-associated formations." Among them, the formations arising from the mind have already been explained. Now it is necessary to explain the non-associated formations, so the question is asked, "What are the non-associated formations?" Because the place, object, aspect, time, and substance are the same, they arise simultaneously with the mind and do not follow the mind, so they are called non-associated formations. The Hinayana masters believe that each of the non-associated formations is substantially existent, but the Yogacara school believes that these are merely imputed and not substantially existent. And in order to explain where these imputed existences are established, (it is said that) whatever is established in the time of form, mind, and mental factors, these are non-associated formations. Although it is not explicitly stated, because it is the occasion for explaining non-associated formations, whatever is established in the time of form, established in the time of mind, and established in the time of mental factors, these are non-associated formations.
