The meaning of asking "What is ཉིད་གང་ཞེ་ན་?" is to inflict various harms on sentient beings. It is called harm because it causes suffering to the bodies of sentient beings and discomfort to their minds. Binding, beating, threatening, and other various harms inflicted on sentient beings, causing them discomfort, are called harm. Harm is also called lack of love, lack of compassion, and lack of patience. These three are different names for harm. Alternatively, performing actions such as binding sentient beings oneself is called lack of love. Causing others to bind sentient beings, etc., is called lack of compassion. Seeing others binding sentient beings and rejoicing and approving of it is called lack of patience. This (harm) also arises from anger, so it should be understood as being nominally established. Its function is to make the minds of sentient beings coarse, and to harm sentient beings through binding, beating, etc. In order to show the nature of shamelessness, the question is asked: What is shamelessness? This means asking what the nature and characteristics of shamelessness are. The answer is that it refers to not being ashamed of oneself because of faults. Actions such as killing, which are condemned by the Buddhas and other holy beings, are called faults. If one explains shame, then shamelessness will be easy to encounter, so it is even more important to show shame. In this regard, I was born into such a lineage, and I possess such wisdom and qualities, so I should not do such evil deeds. Looking at oneself in this way, guarding against sinful actions, and not indulging oneself is called shame. Knowing that one was born into such a lineage, possessing such qualities, and knowing that one should not do such evil deeds, but not being ashamed of oneself and engaging in sinful actions without hesitation is called shamelessness. This (shamelessness) also arises from desire, hatred, and ignorance.
