The explanation of "Universally Holding" is as follows: Offering one's own possessions, such as Dharma and material goods, and giving away both what one desires and what one does not desire in order to benefit others, is called generosity. "One's own possessions" refers to things that one owns or uses. Dharma refers to being proficient in the meaning and explanation of scriptures. Material goods refer to utensils such as begging bowls and robes. Giving to stupas and the like is done with the intention of making offerings. Giving to the poor is done with the intention of benefiting them. Giving to the Sangha is done with the intention of making offerings and benefiting them. Giving to the extremely poor and the Sangha is called giving to those who desire. Giving to noble beings such as Buddhas is called giving to those who do not desire. If there is stinginess, one will not engage in the kind of generosity that involves giving Dharma and material goods to others, and it will disappear. Therefore, stinginess is incompatible with generosity. "Mental clinging" refers to being attached to gain and respect, driven by desire, and being unwilling to give away even unnecessary or bad things such as robes and begging bowls, and accumulating wealth. This is called stinginess. This also arises from desire, so it should be recognized that it does not exist in substance but is merely imputed. The reason for this is reliance on not knowing satisfaction, because those who are stingy are never satisfied with accumulating the necessities of life and material goods. To show the nature of deceit. If someone asks what deceit is, this is actually asking what the nature and characteristics of deceit are. The answer to this is: "Deceiving others, showing what is not true." This means that even if one does not possess discipline or is not a wise person, one shows and proclaims to others that one seems to possess discipline or seems to be a wise person, which is deceiving others. If one shows that one does not possess discipline, one will worry that others will not give gain and respect, so one is attached to gain and respect. Because of the attachment to gain and respect, even though one is in a state of not possessing discipline,
