If ignorance ceases, wisdom will arise. To say that these do not exist is to destroy existing realities. For those who are endowed with delusion and bewilderment, there arises the imputation that everything does not exist. For those who are without bewilderment and endowed with wisdom, there does not arise the imputation that everything does not exist. Therefore, this wrong view is associated with delusion, and because it grasps existing dharmas as non-existent in a reversed manner, it is called a wisdom affliction because it is associated with reversal. Someone asked: "The view of the aggregates of destruction also reverses the absence of self and what belongs to self, grasping them as self and what belongs to self. The clinging to extremes also reverses the absence of permanence and annihilation, grasping them as permanent and annihilated. So, all five views are wrong views. Why is it that only the view of non-existence is labeled as a wrong view, and other views are not called wrong views?" Answer: "Only certain views that enter into extreme wrong views and become the cause of extreme evil are called wrong views, while other views are not called wrong views. For example, like butter that does not smell good and a sinful Chandalas. Just as all butter is not fragrant, but that which is particularly unfragrant is called butter that does not smell good; all Chandalas engage in sinful deeds, but those Chandalas who particularly enjoy killing are called sinful Chandalas. Similarly, other views are also wrong views, but they do not impute that the five aggregates do not exist, and they do not excessively cling to the existence of self and so on. Therefore, they are not entering into extreme wrong views, nor are they causing extreme evil. Thus, other views are not labeled as wrong views. However, this view that everything does not exist enters into the state of imputing that everything does not exist. Because it enters into extreme wrong views and becomes the cause of extreme evil, it is called a wrong view. The function of this view is to serve as the basis for severing the roots of virtue and increasing the roots of non-virtue. If a wrong view arises, then all previously accumulated roots of virtue will disappear, and all roots of non-virtue will increase and develop."

It is for that reason. In order to show the nature of distorted views, when asked "What is distorted view?", it means asking what is the nature and characteristics of distorted view. The answer is: those three kinds of views themselves, and their place - the aggregates, are considered to be supreme, sacred, and primary, and are truly followed, which is called wisdom with afflictions. The so-called "those three kinds of views themselves" refers to the three kinds of views mentioned above: the view of the body as a collection, the view of holding to extremes, and the distorted view. The so-called "their place - the aggregates" means that these three views also arise from focusing on the five aggregates, so the cause of the three views is the five aggregates. The five aggregates are their place. The three words supreme, sacred, and primary have the same meaning, but they should be understood as one explaining the other, for example, what is supreme? Because it is sacred, it is supreme. What is sacred? Because it is primary, it is sacred. Truly following means firmly believing that "only this is it." In short, regarding the three views of the view of the body as a collection, the view of holding to extremes, and the distorted view, the mind firmly believes that these views are supreme, sacred, and primary, and also firmly believes that the place where these views arise - the five aggregates - are supreme, sacred, and primary, this is called distorted view. For those who are ignorant and have delusion, three evil views will arise, and they will consider the place of evil views - the aggregates - to be supreme and sacred. But for those who are without ignorance and have wisdom, evil views will not arise, nor will they consider the place of evil views - the aggregates - to be supreme and sacred, therefore this distorted view is also associated with delusion, and because it perversely considers non-supreme dharmas to be supreme, it is called wisdom with afflictions. Its function is to serve as the basis for clinging to evil views, and clinging to evil views means regarding the view of the body as a collection, the view of holding to extremes, and the distorted view as virtues, so they are not abandoned, therefore it serves as the basis for clinging to evil views.
