The state of equanimity of mind, arising continuously in that manner, is called a tamed mind, which indicates the intermediate state of equanimity. At the time of a tamed mind, because the meditation has not been long, there arises a mind of fear that dullness and agitation may arise. After that, because of meditating for a long time, the meditation becomes perfected, and even if the opposing factors of equanimity, dullness and agitation, are abandoned for a long time, there is no fear of dullness and agitation arising, and one abides in equanimity without effort, which is called a spontaneously accomplished mind, which indicates the final state of equanimity. To show what will happen after attaining these, it is said: "By what is the Dharma of afflictions removed, and one abides without afflictions?" "By what" refers to equanimity, which is the means or cause, meaning "by what equanimity." The Dharma of afflictions refers to the collection of desire, hatred, and so on. "Removed" means not allowing the Dharma of afflictions to arise in the mind. How does one prevent them from arising in the mind? Because equanimity is contrary to the collection of afflictions such as desire, if equanimity arises, it will undoubtedly hinder the arising of afflictions, therefore it is called "removed." Because at the time of abiding in equanimity, there is no opportunity for afflictions to arise, therefore abiding in equanimity is called abiding without afflictions. Thus, equanimity eliminates afflictions, and abides and acts without afflictions, therefore, the function of equanimity is also to serve as a basis for preventing the arising of afflictions. In order to show non-harming, it is asked: "What is non-harming?" meaning "What is the nature and characteristic of non-harming?" The answer is: "The antidote to non-harming." Here, too, if harming is shown first, it will be easier to understand non-harming, therefore harming is further explained. Among them, inflicting various harms such as beating and binding sentient beings is harm.

O! Not harming sentient beings by hitting, binding, etc., is non-harm. If non-harm arises, then there will be no harm, therefore non-harm is the antidote to harm. In order to show what the entity of non-harm is, it is said, "It is compassion." Eliminating the suffering of sentient beings is compassion, and compassion is non-harm. Alternatively, compassion in Indian language is Kāruṇā (Tibetan: ཀཱ་རུ་ཎ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: करुणा, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: karuṇā, literal Chinese meaning: compassion), where Kā means happiness, and Ruṇā means to eliminate. Seeing others suffer, one also feels pain, and in order to eliminate the suffering of others, one endures various sufferings through various efforts, therefore it is also called one's own defilements. Just as non-attachment, non-hatred, non-delusion, and mindfulness arising from the four diligences, do not actually exist, but are merely nominal designations. Similarly, non-harm also arises from the part of non-hatred, therefore it does not actually exist, but is merely a nominal designation. Its function is not to harm sentient beings with various harms such as binding and hitting, therefore it is the function of non-harm. The explanation of the eleven virtues is complete. Next, the six afflictions will be explained. Among them, in order to show the nature of desire, the question is asked, "What is desire?" It means asking what the nature and characteristics of desire are. As an answer, it is said, "Attachment and clinging to the five aggregates of close acquisition." Due to the power of craving, one takes birth in the three realms, therefore craving is called "acquisition"; or, this existence can take the karma of birth in the three realms and cause karma to arise, therefore craving is called "close acquisition." For example, just as the fire that arises from grass and chaff is called grass fire and chaff fire, the five aggregates that arise from craving are called the five aggregates of close acquisition. Also, just as the tree from which flowers and fruits arise is called the flower tree and the fruit tree, the aggregate from which the nature of affliction, craving, arises is called the
