It is understanding. Although all virtuous dharmas are antidotes to ignorance, they are not called non-ignorance. Only the wisdom that understands the four truths without error is called the antidote to ignorance. It has two aspects: wisdom and individual examination. Wisdom also has four aspects: Vipaka (result), understanding, thinking, and familiarity. The wisdom that is obtained immediately after birth is called Vipaka wisdom. The wisdom that arises from hearing is called understanding wisdom. The wisdom that arises from thinking is called thinking wisdom. The wisdom that arises from meditation is called familiarity wisdom. Individual examination also refers to wisdom with diligence or wisdom with Samadhi. By its power, even if the seeds of affliction are not eradicated from the root, it prevents the arising of afflictions, which is called individual examination. In essence, the four wisdoms that truly know the self and general characteristics of the four noble truths, and the wisdom of the nature of individual examination, are called non-ignorance. It is said: If wisdom is called non-ignorance, then wisdom has already been explained in the context of determining the five objects individually. Why repeat it now? It is said: There, the nature of wisdom was generally explained, and it was not specifically distinguished whether the wisdom that truly knows the nature of dharma is virtuous or non-virtuous, or not indicated. Now, here, in order to show that the wisdom that is proficient in the nature of dharma belongs to virtue, it is established as the name of non-ignorance and explained among the eleven virtues. Its function is to be the basis for not engaging in misconduct, because those who are without ignorance do not engage in actions such as killing. In order to show the nature of diligence, it is asked, what is diligence? It means asking what is the nature and characteristic of diligence? The answer is that it is the antidote to laziness. Here, too, because it is easier to understand diligence if laziness is mentioned first, laziness will be further explained.

There are two types of laziness: laziness that delights in blameworthy things, and laziness that is characterized by sloth. Laziness that delights in blameworthy things refers to diligence in engaging in non-virtuous actions such as killing, which is also called laziness. Laziness characterized by sloth refers to enjoying idle talk, sleep, and the like, and being unwilling to engage the mind in either virtuous or non-virtuous activities, which is also called laziness. If there is diligence, the two types of laziness will disappear, so diligence is said to be the antidote to laziness. Both laziness that delights in blameworthy things and laziness characterized by sloth are laziness and not diligence, and it is to show what the characteristic of diligence is. It is said that "the mind is manifestly delighted in virtue," which means that when one engages in virtuous activities such as listening and thinking, the mind does not hesitate or turn back, and this is called diligence. Therefore, delighting in non-virtuous dharmas and engaging in evil conduct is called laziness and not diligence. Therefore, the Blessed One has also said that in other scriptures, the diligence of non-Buddhists is actually laziness. Its function is to perfect and accomplish virtuous qualities, because with diligence, virtuous qualities will be accomplished and perfected. To show the nature of pliancy. Someone asks, what is pliancy? This is actually asking what the nature and characteristic of pliancy is. The answer is: it is the antidote to afflictions, making body and mind serviceable. What is called afflictions refers to the seeds of afflictions and near afflictions, and the seeds of the obscuration of knowledge. Among them, the seeds of afflictions and near afflictions are the obstacles for the Shravakas, and the seeds of the obscuration of knowledge are the obstacles for the Bodhisattvas. What is called pliancy refers to the serviceability of body and mind. If one is free from the seeds of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge, then body pliancy and mind pliancy will arise, so pliancy is the antidote to
