Or, from the perspective of the Dharma, whatever the mind feels ashamed, that is called knowing shame. Among them, "from the perspective of myself" means relying on myself. How to rely on myself? Regarding sinful things, observe in this way: This evil deed is condemned by the noble ones and the wise, and I am also born from such a lineage, being knowledgeable and wise, therefore this should not be something I do. Thus, feeling ashamed in the mind about sinful things is, from the perspective of myself, feeling ashamed for things that should not be done. How, from the perspective of the Dharma, is one ashamed for things that should not be done? If this sinful thing is done, unpleasant results will ripen in the next life, as the scriptures and Dharma principles also say. If one practices this, it goes against the Dharma principles, therefore it should not be done. Thus, feeling ashamed in the mind is, from the perspective of the Dharma, feeling ashamed for things that should not be done. The function of this is to become the basis for abstaining from misconduct, because if one knows shame, one will abstain from sin and not do sinful things. To show the nature of being ashamed, the question is asked: What is being ashamed? It means asking what the nature and characteristics of being ashamed are. As an answer, it is said, "From the perspective of the world, feeling ashamed for things that should not be done." Among them, "from the perspective of the world" means relying on what should be done in the world. How to rely on the world? If this thing is done, one will be condemned and beaten by the world, that is, it becomes the basis for abstaining from misconduct. If I do things that should not be done, I will be condemned, bound, and beaten by the world, and so on. Thinking like this, whatever the mind feels ashamed, is, from the perspective of the world, feeling ashamed for things that should not be done. The function of this is also to become the basis for abstaining from misconduct, because if one knows shame and is ashamed, if one does not do sinful things, then one will not do them. If one does them, one will not do them again in the future, therefore it is the basis for abstaining from misconduct. To show the nature of non-attachment, the question is asked: What is non-attachment? It means asking what the nature and characteristics of non-attachment are.

The meaning of asking "What is 'renunciation'?" Among them, the meaning of "non-attachment" has three aspects: non-existence, difference, and antidote. Non-existence is like simply saying "without fame" is called "unnamed," just as simply not having attachment is called "non-attachment." The meaning is different, for example, what is different from attachment is hatred, and a person who hates is also called "non-attached." In terms of the meaning of antidote, becoming the antidote to attachment is called "non-attachment," and here it should be understood as the meaning of antidote. Therefore, the answer is: "It is the antidote to attachment, that is, being disgusted and not taking." Saying this, if attachment is said first, then understanding non-attachment becomes easier, so attachment is said first. Among them, the craving for existence and the enjoyment of existence is attachment. The so-called "existence" refers to the five aggregates of samsara. The enjoyment of existence refers to food and drink, etc. Non-attachment is the absence of craving for existence and the enjoyment of existence. For example, the antidote to fire is water, and when water appears, fire disappears; the antidote to darkness is light, and when light appears, darkness disappears. Similarly, when non-attachment appears, attachment disappears, so it is called the antidote to attachment. In order to show that meaning, the words "disgusted and not taking" are spoken, recognizing that the fault of existence and the enjoyment of existence is the nature of birth and old age, and thereby generating disgust for it, this is called disgust. Having generated disgust in this way, not accumulating existence and the enjoyment of existence, wanting to be separated from it, not wanting to meet, without craving and attachment, this is called not taking. This action is also the basis for not entering into wrong conduct, because if there is no attachment to existence and the enjoyment of existence, one will not commit sinful actions for it. In order to show the nature of non-hatred, ask "What is non-hatred?", meaning to ask what is the nature and characteristics of non-hatred? Here, it should also be seen as the meaning that becoming the antidote to hatred is called non-hatred. The answer is: "It is the antidote to hatred, that is, loving-kindness." Saying this, if hatred is said first, then understanding non-hatred becomes easier, so hatred is said first.
