It also applies to creating unwholesome actions. The mind also manifests and creates what is not explained, and also applies to what is not explained, which is called attention. For example, although the needle does not shake or move, it shakes and moves due to the power of the lodestone. Or, for virtuous dharmas, the mind thinks and sees them as virtues, and for unwholesome dharmas, it thinks and sees them as faults, and for neither, that is, for unexplained dharmas, it does not think or see them as virtues or faults, which is called attention. Or, for those who benefit, it sees and thinks of them as virtues; for those who harm, it sees and thinks of them as faults; for those who are neutral, it does not think or see them as anything, which is called attention. It is said: The so-called action of mind, although it is not called the action of mind because of the movement of the mind, but since it has been said that the mind manifests and creates, it is naturally obtained that it is the action of mind. Why is it necessary to say the action of mind? Answer: Discrimination and investigation, etc., are also the nature of the mind's manifestation and creation, and even if the mind moves, it is not the action of mind. Because consciousness moves like an immovable dharma, this is done by attention, not by other things born of the mind, so it is called the action of mind. Therefore, this is to distinguish other dharmas born of the mind. Therefore, the so-called action of mind shows the nature of attention. For those who are neither virtue nor fault, the mind's manifestation and creation shows that it is its action. The five pervasive mental factors have been described. The five specific object mental factors will be described. Among them, in order to show the nature of desire, ask: What is desire? This is asking what the nature and characteristics of desire are. The answer is: Desire arises for the desired object. Desire also only arises for the desired object itself. Desire does not arise for non-desired objects, so it is the determination of the object. Among them, the desired object is the object that one wants to see, such as form, and the object that one wants to hear, such as sound, etc. Desire is how to see and how to hear the object.

Wishing to hear in that way, thinking how wonderful it would be to see and hear the objects that should be seen and heard, this is called 'desire'. Someone asks: If 'desire' is to have desire for the object of desire, then 'existence' is also to have desire for the object of desire, so what is the difference between 'existence' and 'desire'? The answer is: 'Craving' is the nature of attachment and clinging to the object of desire, while 'desire' does not have a strong attachment to the object, it is merely a wish, so there is a difference. Its function is to serve as the basis for diligence, because if there is desire, diligence will be initiated. In order to explain the nature of faith and understanding, the question is asked, 'What is faith and understanding?' This means asking what the nature and definition of faith and understanding are. The answer is that it is to grasp the determined object itself as it is. The object of faith and understanding is only the determined object, and faith and understanding do not arise for the undetermined object, so it is indicated that the object is determined. Through the infallible teachings, direct perception, and the reasoning of inference, it has been determined that all phenomena are impermanent, suffering, and selfless in nature, and there is no doubt, this is the determined object. 'Grasping as it is' means that for things that have been determined and believed to be impermanent and suffering, etc., grasping that things are only impermanent and suffering, etc., and not truly permanent and blissful, etc., this is called 'determination'. Or, for the five aggregates, form is like a bubble, feeling is like a bubble on water, perception is like a mirage, formation is like the heartwood of a banana tree, and consciousness is like an illusion. Believing this deeply and grasping it as it is, believing that they are real, this is called grasping the determined object as it is, which is faith and understanding. Therefore, the Blessed One also said: Form is like a bubble, feeling is like a water bubble, perception is like a mirage, formation is like a banana tree, and consciousness is like an illusion, this is what the relative of the sun (Buddha) has declared. Its function is that it cannot be taken away. If one deeply believes in the impermanence of all phenomena, then one's own view
