To abide in the realm of the signless is to be free from all signs of form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and the five senses such as the eye. To conceive of signless Nirvana is to have a signless conception. To abide in the peak of existence is to have a signless conception because one does not make many signs of the object. The signless conception has been explained. The conception with signs is one who is skilled in terminology. What is the small conception? The small is the desire realm, because it is bad. To conceive of it is the small conception, which is to know the desire realm. What is the vast conception? It is to know the form realm. Thus, the form realm is vast, because it is supreme. What is the immeasurable conception? It is to know the sphere of infinite space and the sphere of infinite consciousness, because they are infinite. What is the conception of nothingness? It is to know the sphere of nothingness. Therefore, there is no contradiction, because it is said in the Abhidharma that there is a conception that grasps the distinctions of objects and aspects. If that is the case, and conception is also of the nature of complete severance, then what is the difference between consciousness and conception? Answer: There is a difference. Consciousness only grasps the meaning of form, etc. Conception is to completely sever the object and then grasp it definitively. This is the difference. Its characteristic is the characteristic of knowing by gathering, that is, grasping the sign, and how the manifest sign is grasped, and how it differs from seeing, hearing, and distinguishing, and applying terms to the meaning of consciousness. Seeing is what is experienced by the eye. Hearing is what is experienced by the ear. Distinguishing is what I think, like this and like that. Consciousness is what is experienced by oneself. The so-called application of terms is the meaning of making it understood by words. The aggregate of conception has been explained. After the aggregate of conception, the aggregate of formation will be explained. Here it is said, what are the formations?

That is, the term called the aggregate of formation. Other than feeling and perception, all phenomena arising from the mind, and those that are not associated with the mind, that is to say, feeling is also a phenomenon arising from the mind, and perception is also a phenomenon arising from the mind, therefore, removing these two, other phenomena arising from the mind, such as contact and attention, and those without obstruction, etc., all of these are called the term of the aggregate of formation. If that is the case, feeling and perception are both similarly arising from the mind, why are they each made into an aggregate, while contact and attention, etc., are not each made into an aggregate? Answer: Feeling and perception must each be made into an aggregate separately. Why? Because they are the root of contention and the cause of samsara. There are two roots of contention: particularly clinging to desire and particularly clinging to views. As it is said, due to attachment, particular attachment, bondage, complete attachment, and universal attachment to desire, householders and non-householders argue. Due to attachment, particular attachment, attachment, bondage, complete attachment, and universal attachment to views, renunciants and renunciants argue. It's like that. The former is produced by feeling. The latter is produced by perception. Due to the power of feeling tasting flavors, there is manifest attachment to various desires. Due to the power of inverted perception, the view of self arises, that is, perceiving the Dharma as self, and perceiving non-self, etc., as self, that is, manifest attachment to those views. Clinging to feeling, and transmigrating due to the power of inverted perception, that is to say, clinging to feeling that engages in existence, one transmigrates due to the power of feeling. Engaging in views, one transmigrates due to the power of inverted perception. Thus, feeling combined with craving, and perception engaging in views, is called the cause of samsara. Or, clinging to feeling, and inverted perception, that is to say, being bound by the four types of inverted perception, this is the so-called term. Therefore,
