The mind will arise. The five all-pervading factors have been explained. What is desire? It is the wish for the object of thought. The object of thought is the desire to see, hear, etc., the desired object. Diligence is the function of relying on diligence. What is faith? It is holding onto the determined object as it is. The determined object is the collection of the five aggregates. As it is said: Form is like a bubble. Feeling is like a water bubble. Perception is like a mirage. Formations are like a plantain tree. Consciousness is like an illusion. The friend of the sun thus declared. As it is said. Thus, faith is to have faith in the aggregates. Or, how things abide, so it is, to have faith in them is faith. It is a synonym for determined holding. It is the function of not being robbed. Thus, if one cherishes it, it cannot be taken away by others. What is mindfulness? It is not forgetting the familiar object, it is the present statement of the mind. The familiar object should be known as something previously experienced. If the object appears clearly in undistracted mindfulness, then the mind is the function of not being distracted. What is samadhi? It is the one-pointedness of mind on the object of investigation. The object of investigation is the collection of the five aggregates, which is impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. There, the one-pointedness of mind is a synonym for non-distraction. It is the function of relying on knowledge. The reliance is to abide in samadhi in order to know things as they really are. What is wisdom? It is to discriminate well among them, that is, to generate reason and unreason, and others. The object of investigation is the collection of the five aggregates, and on that object itself, to discriminate well the characteristics of the dharmas, both their own and common characteristics. It is the function of dispelling doubt. If one discriminates well the dharmas with wisdom, then by obtaining certainty, doubt is dispelled. What arises from reason belongs to these dharma practitioners. What arises from unreason belongs to the Samkhya and Vaisheshika schools.

It is about the earth. The others are obtained by birth, and understanding worldly terms. The determination of each place has been explained. Now, eleven virtues are to be spoken of, that is, to declare them: What is faith? It is the great trust in karma, fruit, truth, and the Three Jewels, and the initial mind. Karma is of three kinds: merit, non-merit, and the nature of unwavering karma. Merit is the path of the ten virtuous actions. Non-merit is the path of the ten non-virtuous actions, including preparation, the main action, and the conclusion. Furthermore, whatever is not included in these, such as killing, binding, imprisoning, beating, and so on. Unwavering karma refers to the four concentrations and the four formless absorptions. This karma is unwavering because its ripening is unwavering. Fruit is said to be of four kinds: the fruit of stream-entry, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, and the fruit of Arhatship. Here, fruit refers to being free from afflictions. Alternatively, the fruit of virtuous karma is desire, and the fruit of non-virtuous karma is undesirability. The noble truths are four: the truth of suffering, the truth of origin, the truth of cessation, and the truth of the path. Among these, the truth of suffering is the result, which is the five aggregates of grasping. The truth of origin is the cause, which is the activity of body, speech, and mind, preceded by craving and grasping. In short, it is the afflictions associated with the karma of arising. This is spoken from the perspective of cyclic existence. The truth of cessation is the result, cessation is being free from afflictions. The truth of the path is the cause, which is a way to obtain that freedom, this is just a saying. This is spoken from the perspective of purification and liberation. What is the meaning of the term "noble truth"? These are true for the noble ones, therefore, the sutra says they are noble truths. Are these false for others? No, these are true for all beings, because they are not inverted. The noble ones see them as they are, while others do not.
