This is shown. It is to show its divisions. Tangible, intangible, and both, it is said to arise from the cause of the great elements. Among these, the tangible ones belong to the body, that is, the mind and mental factors are considered as objects of abode. The opposite is the intangible. Because they are the cause here, the great elements are tangible, intangible, and both, arising from the cause of the great elements. Among these, what arises from the cause of the tangible great elements are hands and the sound of speech, etc. What arises from the cause of the intangible great elements are the sounds of wind, forests, and rivers, etc. What arises from the cause of both great elements are the sounds of drums, etc. What is smell? It is called the object of the nose itself, and the object of the nose is smell itself, just like before. Equal smell is beneficial to the great elements of the senses and does not cause harm. Smell is innate, arising from mixture, and arising from transformation. Among these, the innate are sandalwood and saffron, etc. What arises from mixture is the smell of incense, cardamom, etc. What arises from transformation is that of ripe mangoes, etc. What is taste? Etc., it is called the object of the tongue itself, and the object of the tongue is taste itself. It should also be stated extensively as before. Because of the difference in nature, six differences are mentioned. If classified in other ways, then its mixed differences will become infinite. Here is the occasion to show the form as the cause, so after taste, the form as the cause, one aspect of the tangible, is shown. Therefore, after explaining taste, wanting to explain one aspect of the tangible, it is asked: What is one aspect of the tangible? The tangible is of two kinds: the great elements and their forms as the cause. The great elements have been shown and explained before. Here is the occasion of the form as the cause, therefore, what is one aspect of the tangible is combined with the form as the cause. Called the object of the body, it is the object of the body itself, not the eyes, etc.

It is not. Thus, it is shown to be different from form and sound, etc. The object of the body itself is called "touchableness," which means that although the four great elements and the derived form are different from each other, there is no difference in touchableness. The object called the body, the four great elements are also the object of the body, so it will excessively become the form as the cause. Therefore, it is said "establish the four great elements." In order to show one aspect of touch very well, softness, roughness, etc. are mentioned. Since the body's root is touchable, if softness, etc. are said to be touchable, then whoever touches what, that will surely touch it, then will the body's root not excessively become touchable? No one will touch anything, if the self touches everything, then all aggregates will become only the size of dust particles. If part touches, then the dust particles will excessively become having parts, therefore the dust particles themselves will disappear. Therefore, when the object and the root arise without interruption, relying on what the consciousness recognizes the object, it is nominally established that it touches the object, the object is not the place of consciousness. Therefore, it is nominally established that the body's root touches the four great elements themselves, but not the form, etc. that dwell on them, because the body's consciousness does not hold them. Damage to the color, etc. of flowers, etc. is because of damage to its place, not because the body touches it. If the body does not touch the place of color, etc., how will it be damaged? This should be considered. Therefore, here one should follow the worldly conventions, not the ultimate truth. Softness is a synonym for not pressing, not rough, and usable. Only softness is softness. Called roughness, because this has roughness, so it is called roughness, like having hair. Called roughness, it means strength. Only roughness is roughness, it is a synonym for rough, astringent, and not very soft. Heavy is heavy.
