It is what others force to do, and what is done by being overwhelmed by afflictions. Time refers to when it is not abandoned. Non-time refers to exceeding that time. Reason refers to what is appropriate. Non-reason refers to what is inappropriate. It has three types: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. Here, only what is included in the near afflictions belonging to the category of ignorance is taken. What is sleep? "Entering and involuntarily gathering the mind," where "entering" refers to entering the object of focus. That is to say, from where does the mind's involuntariness arise? Or, from where does the involuntary entering of the mind that cannot hold the body arise, that is sleep. Because others can also cause the mind's entering to be involuntary, therefore it is said "gathering the mind." Because others can also gather the mind, therefore it is said "the mind's entering is involuntary." Gathering the mind means not entering through the doors of the senses such as the eyes. It also has virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral aspects. The causes of sleep are weak sunlight, fatigue, heaviness of the body, attending to the signs of darkness, etc., relying on these, what belongs to the category of ignorance arises, which has the function of being the basis for losing function. Here, only non-virtue belongs to the category of ignorance, not the others. What is conceptualization? It is the mind's expression of pervasive seeking, that is, the difference between thought and wisdom. Pervasive seeking refers to entering the state of pervasively thinking "what is this?" The expression of the mind's nature is the mind's expression. Because it is similar to expression, it is expression, that is, expressing meaning. The difference between thought and wisdom refers to thought being the nature that makes the mind pervasively move, while wisdom is the form of distinguishing merits and faults. Because the mind also enters by means of them, sometimes conceptualization is established on the mind and thought, and sometimes on wisdom and the mind, just like the time and order of non-manifest conceptualization and manifest conceptualization. Or it is established on thought and wisdom themselves, because it enters in that way by means of them. This method should also be examined for investigation.

The so-called "coarse mind" refers to the state of universally seeking things. What is "observation"? The so-called "individual contemplation of the mind" refers to the state of observing "this is this" on things that have been previously understood. Similarly, the "similarly" in the so-called "mind is peaceful" refers to the difference between mind and wisdom. Because it is the state of individually contemplating things, it is called "peaceful." These two are the basis for abiding in contact and not abiding in contact. These two distinguish the difference between the coarse mind and the subtle abiding state. The aggregate of formations refers to the nature of mental events other than the aggregates of feeling and perception, and the nature of formations that are not associated with the mind. Among these, mental events have already been discussed. Now it is necessary to discuss formations that are not associated with the mind, therefore, it is said, "What are the formations that are not associated with the mind?" As asked, whatever is established on the state of form, mind, and mental events, and is not established as that or other, these are general indications. These are non-associated formations that are connected by context. Because the states of form, etc., do not have their own nature, these are nominally established in order to establish terms on the states of form, etc. Therefore, because they are dependent, they are not established as that or other like the state, because the state and the one with the state would become one and many, and the result of the one with the state would become permanent. After this general indication, wanting to understand the difference, the question is asked, "What are these again?" and then the differences between attainment and the samadhi of non-perception, etc., are widely indicated. The so-called "categories similar to this" refers to those with such a nature, and others that are established on the state of form, mind, and mental events, these should also be understood as non-associated formations. What are these again? Entering, individual determination, arrival, speed, sequence, time, place
