Examination. This is a wrong view regarding all dharmas, doubt, and the karma that serves as the basis for the arising of all afflictions. The wisdom of the nature of discrimination is called view. Therefore, even the correct view of the world becomes a view. Therefore, in order to show that here it refers to the five views such as the view of the perishable aggregates, the name "five views" is mentioned. Although they are not different in terms of afflictive nature, in order to show that they are different due to the difference in object and aspect, the view of the perishable aggregates is widely mentioned. Perishing is perishing, accumulating is accumulating, this view of the nature of perishing is many, it is the name that indicates the absence of self and self-possession, those who say self acknowledge that I am permanent and unique, but this is impermanent and becomes the realm of many, therefore it shows that it is not the realm of self. The so-called aggregates of close grasping, etc., refer to whichever śrāmaṇa or brāhmaṇa who contemplates self and self-possession, those contemplations are on these five aggregates of close grasping, as stated in the sūtra. They also cling to self in the form of self-nature or fruit, the Sāṃkhyas think that I am the self-nature with consciousness, they are not good at distinguishing between mind and mental factors, so they say that the collection of mind and mental factors as a whole is conscious, therefore they think that the four aggregates are self, and the form aggregate is self-possession. Apart from the function of the mind, other consciousness cannot be expressed or understood by the ordinary experience of the mind. The same is true for feeling, etc. Some heretics say that the self-nature of consciousness is self, their clinging to self and self-possession should also be observed as mentioned above. The Vaiśeṣikas, etc., show self from the perspective of fruit, saying that whatever is from view to thought, as well as feeling, combining and knowing, remembering, intending, and distinguishing, is self.

Moreover, one develops pride in considering the eye and so forth as the self. Since without them, there is no other way of seeing apart from the eye. The consciousness of the eye and so forth is called seeing and so on, because they are the unique cause, thus showing that one sees with the eye. For example, the unique cause of sound is the ringing of a bell. So, how should one explain the statement that even though one sees forms with the eye, the mind neither rejoices nor does not rejoice? There, for whatever aggregate or continuum is designated as "self," it is said that the eye sees forms. What appears as form itself is called seeing form, and thus, based on its presence or absence, seeing and not seeing are distinguished. The same should be said for hearing and so on. From where feeling arises, it is called feeling, and similarly, from where recognition arises, it is called recognition. There, in order to negate the recognizer apart from recognition, only the thing itself is shown as the agent. The same should be said for feeling and so on. Or, as shown above, because it appears as an object, it is shown as the agent. All things are momentary, and because they do not exist at the time of action, there is no other agent except for obtaining self. Without an agent, there is no action. If things do not immediately perish after obtaining self, then because there is no cause, they will not perish later either. The destroyer and destruction will not have a difference in nature later either. If one considers destruction to be with a cause, then is it the destroyer itself, or is something else considered to be the cause of destruction? If it is the former, then things will either immediately perish after obtaining self, or they will fall into a state of non-destruction. Because it does not depend on other things, it was not the cause of anything before, and without a difference in nature, it will not become its cause later either. If it is the latter, then the cause of destruction will become uncertain. If one says that just like fruits, the cause of destruction is also certain, that is not so, the frui
