Furthermore, what is meant by fitness? Mental fitness refers to the pliancy of the mind that enters into proper attention, and the cause that transforms into fitness, that is, other phenomena born from the mind. If one possesses this fitness, the mind can engage in the object of focus without hindrance, hence it is called mental fitness. The tactile sensation of the body, if seized by joy, should be known as extreme physical pliancy. Because the sutra says, 'If the mind is joyful, the body will become extremely pliant.' Here, even if physical pliancy is not born from the mind, it is said to be a branch of perfect enlightenment because it is within the category of what is born from the mind. Alternatively, physical fitness is for accomplishing mental fitness. Therefore, even if it is not born from the mind, here it is referred to as physical fitness. This is because it transforms the place by its power and has the function of eliminating all obscurations such as afflictions. What is mindfulness? It is the antidote to heedlessness. That is, abiding in non-attachment and so on up to diligence, abandoning non-virtuous dharmas, and also cultivating the virtuous dharmas that are their antidotes. Heedlessness is when one does not protect one's mind from afflictions and diminishes virtuous dharmas. Mindfulness is abandoning afflictions and also cultivating the dharmas that are their antidotes. Therefore, mindfulness is said to be the antidote to heedlessness. 'From non-attachment up to diligence' refers to holding non-attachment, non-hatred, non-ignorance, and diligence. Abiding in non-attachment and so on up to diligence refers to relying on and abiding, thereby abandoning non-virtuous dharmas. This shows that all of non-attachment and so on are mindfulness. Non-virtuous dharmas should be understood as defilements and the places of defilements. Among these, abandoning refers to eliminating defilements, causing them to cease, and cutting off their seeds. The places are abandoned by completely abandoning them. 'Their antidote' refers to the antidotes to non-virtuous dharmas, which are virtuous dharmas with defilements and without defilements. Cultivation is making them familiar.

It is doing, that is, manifesting again and again. In this way, relying on non-attachment with diligence, etc., in order to abandon unwholesome dharmas and also cultivate the wholesome dharmas that are their antidote. Non-attachment with diligence and so forth is established as conscientiousness, which shows that conscientiousness is established with a basis or with a cause. This is the act of completely perfecting all the perfections of the world and beyond. Among them, the perfection of the world is the attainment of the distinction of existence and enjoyment. The perfection beyond the world is the attainment of enlightenment by the Hearers and so on. What is equanimity? From non-attachment to diligence, those who abide in themselves, etc., should also be explained here as in conscientiousness. The three words, such as "equality of mind," show the beginning, middle, and end of equanimity. Among them, sinking and agitation are unequal minds. Since they are absent, the first is equality of mind. After that, without manifest effort and without needing to strive, the mind that is equally and naturally engaged in whatever is appropriate is dwelling in tranquility. At that time, because it has not been cultivated for a long time, there is concern that sinking and agitation will arise. After that, because the cultivation has become excellent, the opposing side has become distant, so there is no fear of the two arising, because the causes of the antidote to sinking and agitation are not worked on, so the mind naturally abides. In what way, after removing the afflicted dharmas, in "in what way," in what way is connected with equanimity itself. Afflicted dharmas refers to those with attachment and so on. Removing them also means not arising. Equanimity is incompatible with abiding in affliction, so there is definitely no place for attachment and so on to arise. Therefore, it is said that it is removed by it. In this way, abiding in affliction is incompatible with equanimity, so abiding in equanimity is abiding in non-affliction, and therefore equanimity is
