In whatever way, focusing the mind on that object with the very aspect of complete certainty, being certain that "this is it, not something else," is called aspiration. Its function is non-robbery, because those who cherish aspiration cannot be robbed from their own tenets by external opponents. What is mindfulness? It is not forgetting a familiar object, which is the manifestation of the mind itself. The reason for saying "familiar" is to show that there is no mindfulness for the unfamiliar. A familiar object is what has been previously experienced. Not forgetting is the cause that makes the holding onto the object not wasted, that is, repeatedly remembering the aspect of focusing on the object previously held. Manifestation itself, because it is similar to manifestation, is manifestation. Only manifestation is manifestation itself. If there is a manifestation of the object, there is no mental wandering to other objects or other aspects, therefore its function is non-wandering. What is samadhi? It is the one-pointedness of mind on the object of investigation. The term "investigation" is not something else, thus it is also shown that samadhi is also certainty about each object. The object of investigation is qualities and faults. One-pointedness of mind is the oneness of the object, here one-pointedness refers to the object. If the mind is placed in equanimity, then one knows as it is, therefore its function is to be the support of knowledge. Among them, the permanent object is the four noble truths. In the truth of cessation, by examining aspects such as peace, and in the truth of the path, by examining aspects such as definite emergence, the truth of cessation and the truth of the path are qualities. In the truth of suffering, by examining aspects such as impermanence, and in the truth of origin, by examining aspects such as cause, the truth of suffering and the truth of origin are faults. Similarly, in the nine successive states, the lower is seen as a fault, and the higher as a quality. Similarly, for other objects of self-character and general character, one should also state how they are appropriately related. What is wisdom? It is the complete discernment of these, discerning through reason and unreason.

The meaning of arising and other is that "those themselves" refers to the object of investigation itself. Thus, just like samadhi, wisdom is also shown to be definite on each object. By thoroughly distinguishing, one can also thoroughly distinguish, that is, for dharmas such as the characteristics of self and general mixed together, to distinguish them truthfully or wrongly. Reason is explanation, that is, reliable scripture, inference, and direct perception. Whatever arises from these three ways is what arises from reason. It is also divided into arising from hearing, arising from thinking, and arising from meditation. Among them, the discrimination arising from reliable scriptures is what arises from hearing. The discrimination arising from proper consideration is what arises from thinking. The discrimination arising from samadhi is what arises from meditation. Non-reason refers to unreliable scripture, seemingly valid inference, and wrongly considered samadhi. What arises from non-reason is what arises from non-reason. Among them, the Samkhya and Vaisheshika schools, etc., what arises from hearing and what arises from thinking, because they arise from unreliable scripture and from evil discrimination, therefore they arise from non-reason. Those who speak of permanence and annihilation among those who are free from attachment, and some who speak of permanence, also arise from wrongly considered samadhi, therefore they arise from non-reason. What is obtained by birth and understanding worldly names is neither what arises from reason nor what arises from non-reason. This is the function of dispelling doubt, dispelling doubt is because wisdom thoroughly distinguishes dharmas and then obtains certainty. The detailed explanation of the differentiation of the five aggregates, the second chapter. What is faith? To have genuine faith, desire, and joy in action and result, truth, and the Three Jewels. So-called action has three types: merit, non-merit, and unwavering. Among them, non-merit belongs to the category of desire because it is associated with non-virtue. Merit belongs to the category of desire because its ripening result is uncertain.

That is so. Because there is no movement in ripening, it is immovable. The ripening of non-merit is undesirable in the desire realm. That of merit is desirable. The ripening of immovability is desirable in the form and formless realms. Regarding this, the aspect of faith that clearly believes in the existence of both karma and its result is that karma has good and bad, and its results are desirable and undesirable, in order. Moreover, it arises from the cause of good and bad karma, not created by Ishvara (自在天) etc. Thus, the self-nature of karma and its result is not inverted, and the ripening of karma and its result are clearly believed to be related as cause and effect. Whatever is the aspect of faith that believes in the existence of both karma and its result is the aspect of faith that believes in the existence of both karma and its result. The truths are suffering, origin, cessation, and path, which are inconsistent with the noble ones.
