If it is not related to the object, then why is it that in some places, consciousness arises that appears as objects such as form, but not in all places? Similarly, in the place where the manifest pride of seeing external objects arises, it sometimes arises, but not at all times. What is the reason for this? This is because, according to the view that consciousness depends on external objects, then wherever and whenever external objects exist, consciousness will arise at that place and time. Object and time are certain. According to the view that consciousness does not depend on external objects, then determination is meaningless. Either it arises everywhere at all times, or it does not arise anywhere, that is, never. It will not change that it arises in some places and not in others, and that it sometimes arises and sometimes does not. Therefore, it is temporarily shown that the determination of object and time is unreasonable. In order to show that the mind is not determined is unreasonable, it is said, "All those who dwell in that object and time," and so on. If you do not want to admit that external objects exist, then why is it that in the minds of all sentient beings who dwell in that object and time, consciousness is not certain, but only arises in the minds of a few sentient beings? In order to illustrate this with an example, it is said, "Like someone with cataracts," and so on. For example, the appearance of hair and so on that appears to someone with cataracts only arises in the mind of the person with cataracts, but not in others who do not have cataracts. Similarly, if consciousness arises without external objects, then for whomever consciousness arises that appears as objects such as blue, that person will have the manifest pride of thinking that they see objects such as blue, but not others. This is because it will be shown that the pride of seeing objects arises in the apprehended aspect, and it belongs to whoever has the apprehended aspect, but not to others. Because others do not experience the apprehended aspect of others. In order to show that action is also unreasonable, it is said, "Why," and so on. If consciousness does not depend on things, then why

Furthermore, those with cataracts do not perform actions such as binding, eating, and vomiting with the hairs, mosquitoes, and flesh flies they see. However, those with unimpaired vision do all the actions described above with the hairs they see. Similarly, why do those who see food and drink in dreams not perform actions such as satisfying hunger and satiation? But others who see things when not asleep do. Here, why does a city of Gandharvas not exist, and therefore not perform city actions such as guarding? But kings, ministers, Brahmins, and other inhabitants of the city do. If everything is non-existent and the same, then either everything will perform the actions of hairs, etc., or nothing will. It is said that if the actions of hairs, etc., are only related to the part that is grasped, then all things equally have the part that is grasped, and therefore everything will become functional. This will be shown. According to the view that external objects exist, hairs, etc., food and drink, etc., and cities, etc., also exist, and they also perform their respective actions. But those things that do not exist externally, such as the hairs seen by those with cataracts, food and drink in dreams, and cities of Gandharvas, etc., do not perform any functional actions, which is reasonable. These three examples are to illustrate three kinds of illusions: the first is the illusion of cataracts, the second is sleep, and the third is distance. Therefore, in order to conclude after thus showing the uncertainty of places, etc., it is said, "If these things are non-existent and the same," etc. If the external object does not exist as shown, then the four places, etc., are unreasonable. Therefore, one must unhesitatingly acknowledge the existence of external objects, which is the former's view. To this, the teacher began to answer without hesitation, saying, "It is not unreasonable," etc. These four kinds of certainty of places, etc., are unreasonable without external objects.
