The analysis of "ra" should be understood from the explanation of the five aggregates. If these are merely consciousness-only, how can they not contradict the sutras? Because the sutras speak of the three natures: the completely imputed nature, the dependent nature, and the thoroughly established nature. Answer: There is no contradiction in establishing the three natures within consciousness-only itself. How is it established? Therefore, it is said: By whatever discriminations, whatever things are discriminated, that itself is the completely imputed nature, that does not exist. This is stated to show the infinite discriminations arising from discriminating the differences between internal and external things. It says, "By whatever discriminations." "Whatever things are discriminated" refers to internal and external things, even including the Dharma of the Buddha. The reason given here is: that does not exist. Whatever object of discrimination exists, because it has no self-nature, it does not exist. Therefore, that thing is only the completely imputed nature, and not the nature dependent on causes and conditions. Like this, it has not been seen that many contradictory discriminations arise simultaneously towards one thing and its non-existence. One thing or its non-existence cannot have many contradictory natures. Therefore, all of these are merely discriminations, because that thing is of the completely imputed nature. It is also said in the sutras that, as the wise know, just as children are attached to their individual selves, so too do phenomena not exist. After the completely imputed nature, the dependent nature will be explained, therefore it is said: The nature of the dependent, is discrimination, it arises from conditions. Here, "discrimination" is stated to show the nature of the dependent. "Arising from conditions" shows the cause of arising that is called dependent. Among these, universal discrimination refers to the differences between virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral, which are the minds and mental factors of the three realms. As it is said: Non-reasoning completely imputed, mind and mental factors of the three realms.

It is like that. Because it is dominated by other causes and conditions, it is 'other-powered,' which is a synonym for the word 'birth,' meaning that it depends on causes and conditions other than itself and indicates the function of arising. The 'other' has already been explained. So, what is 'perfected'? Therefore, it is said, 'Accomplishment is prior to that, whatever is constantly annihilated.' Because it is unchanging, it is 'perfected.' 'That' refers to 'other-powered.' 'Prior' refers to 'completely imputed.' For that distinction, the completely imputed is imputed as the object of the grasper and the grasped. Just as there is no grasper and grasped there, the completely imputed is called completely imputed. The grasper and the grasped, and that other-powered, are always, at all times, eternally separated, and that is the nature of the perfected. Therefore, 'That itself is from other-power, not other, not non-other.' Therefore, the so-called 'that itself' is like this: the nature of the completely imputed is eternally separated from the other-powered, and that is the perfected. Separation itself is the dharma-nature. The dharma-nature cannot be both different and not different from the dharma. The perfected is the dharma-nature of the other-powered, therefore, it must be understood that, from the other-powered, the perfected is neither different nor non-different. If the perfected is different from the other-powered, then the completely imputed will not make the other-powered empty. If it is not different, then the perfected will not become a completely pure object, because like the other-powered, it is the nature of complete defilement. Similarly, the other-powered will also become the nature of complete defilement, because it is not different from the perfected, so it is the same as the perfected. Speak as in the case of impermanence, etc. 'Different and not different' is the remainder of the words. For example, impermanence itself, suffering itself, selflessness itself, are neither different nor non-different from impermanence, etc. If impermanence in the aggregates is different, then the aggregates will not become impermanent. If it is not different, then the aggregates will also decay and disappear, because it is impermanence.
