abides. Or, in order to dispel the clinging of those with manifest pride who, upon merely hearing, think, "I abide in mere purified consciousness." Therefore, it is said, "These are merely consciousness," etc. The saying, "These are merely consciousness," is meaningless, because there is no external object; thus, taking it as an object is another name for clinging and characteristics. "In front" means directly. "Establish" means to establish in the mind as it is obtained. Since the objects of yoga practitioners are diverse, it is said that any one is acceptable, such as a skeleton, scattered remains, rotten remains, worm-eaten remains, swollen remains, and so forth. That which does not abide in "merely" is because the object of consciousness has not been abandoned. When will the clinging of consciousness be abandoned and one will abide in the nature of the mind? Therefore, it is said, "When consciousness does not perceive objects, at that time it abides in mere consciousness, because there is no object, there is no subject." Whenever one takes the teachings as an object, takes the instructions as an object, or even takes ordinary objects such as forms and sounds as objects, consciousness does not perceive outside the mind, does not see, does not grasp, and has no manifest attachment, and sees reality as it is, not like a blind person, at that time the clinging of consciousness is also abandoned, and one also abides in the nature of one's own mind. Here, the reason is stated: "Because there is no object, there is no subject." If there is an object, there will be a subject; if there is no object, there will not be. If there is no object, one will also realize that there is no subject, but it is not merely that there is no object. Thus, without discriminating between the object and the subject, equal, transcendent wisdom arises, abandoning the habitual tendencies of manifest attachment to the object and the subject, and the mind will also abide in the nature of one's own mind. If the mind abides in mere consciousness in that way, what should be done? Therefore, it is said, "That is without mind, without object, that is transcendent wisdom, abides.

It also transforms into something else, because of abandoning the two bad places. That is the unpolluted and the realm of reality, the inconceivable and the virtuous and the teachings, that is the bliss of the liberation body, called the Dharma of the Great Hero. These two verses rely on the path of seeing of the yogi who enters into mere consciousness, and because of the more and more superior progress, it shows the perfect fruit. Among them, because there is no grasping mind, and the object of grasping is not found, it is called no mind and no object. Because it has not been familiar in the world, and has not arisen universally, and has no discrimination, and transcends the world, it is called the wisdom that transcends the world. In order to show that the place has changed under that wisdom, it is said that the place has also transformed into something else. The place here is the alaya consciousness, which is all seeds. What is that which has transformed? If the bad place and the maturation, and the substance of the habits of the two disappear, it will transform into the capable, and the Dharmakaya, and the substance of non-dual wisdom. What is that place transformed that is obtained by abandoning? Therefore, it is said that the two bad places are abandoned. Two refers to the bad place of the affliction obscuration and the bad place of the knowledge obscuration. A bad place is a place that cannot be capable, and that is also the seed of affliction and knowledge obscuration. What is that place transformed that is obtained by abandoning the bad place possessed by the Shravakas and so on? It is said to be the liberation body. What is that which is obtained by abandoning the bad place possessed by the Bodhisattva? It is said to be called the Dharma of the Great Hero. By the difference of abandoning the two kinds of obscurations, it shows that the place is transformed into the superior and the unsurpassed. The verse here is: The consciousness of taking is the nature of the two obscurations, it should be known. The seed of affliction is all seeds, there the two bind the two. Two refers to the Shravaka and the Bodhisattva. The former is the seed of affliction, and the latter is the seed of the two obscurations, and by destroying those, one will be able to obtain omniscience.

“That itself is without outflows and the element.” This means that the very nature of the transformation of the basis is without outflows and the element, because there is no bad destination. Because it is separated from all outflows, it is without outflows. Because it is the cause of the noble Dharma, it is the element. The meaning of the word "element" here is "cause." Inconceivable means that it is not the object of discursive thought, and that it is self-aware, and that it is without comparison. Virtue is the happiness of a completely pure object, and because it is the nature of the Dharma without outflows. The teaching is because it is constant and inexhaustible. Happiness is because it is constant itself, and whatever is impermanent is suffering. This is constant, therefore it is happiness. Because the obscuration of affliction has been abandoned, it is the body of liberation of the hearers. The characteristic of the transformation of the basis is called the Dharmakaya of the Great Hero, because by meditating on the grounds and the perfections, and abandoning the obscurations of affliction and knowledge, the transformation of the basis is truly accomplished, therefore it is called the Dharmakaya of the Great Hero. Because it does not abandon samsara, and because it is without affliction, and because it has obtained mastery over all dharmas, it is called the Dharmakaya of the Bodhisattva. The so-called "Great Hero" means that the Buddha Bhagavan is the Great Hero because he possesses the supreme heroism. The commentary on the Thirty Verses, composed by the teacher Lodro Tän (Blo-gros brtan), is complete. The Indian abbot Jinamitra and Śīlendrabodhi, and the reviser translator Bande Yeshe De (Ye shes sde) have revised and finalized it. Commentary on the Thirty Verses, Sagacious Intelligence.
