Whatever is incompatible with the earth element is referred to as mindless fainting. Apart from these five states, it should be understood that the consciousness of the mind arises at all other times. If consciousness, such as the absence of perception, ceases and disappears, then from where does it arise later? Why do they not become the cause of death? That is because they arise from the alaya-consciousness, which is the seed of all consciousness. To whatever transformation of consciousness, self and dharma are attached, this has been extensively explained in three ways. Now, in order to fully prove that the arising to which self and dharma are attached is the transformation of consciousness, and that apart from the transformation of consciousness, there is no self and dharma, it is said: This transformation of consciousness, is discrimination, that by which pervades, the characteristic of the sign is absent, therefore, all is only consciousness. The three transformations of consciousness just explained are discrimination. The appearance of the meaning of what is assumed, the mind and mental factors of the three realms are discrimination. As it is said: Unreal, all-discriminating, mind and mental factors, three realms nature. It is said like this. The three kinds of discrimination, namely alaya-consciousness, afflicted mind, and entering consciousness, together with those that have the same nature, the objects that are discriminated, such as containers, self, aggregates, places, realms, form, sound, etc., do not exist. Therefore, the transformation of consciousness is called discrimination, because there is no object. How do you know that its object does not exist? Whatever the cause of anything is, if it gathers and is not contradictory, then it will arise, otherwise it will not. Consciousness can arise in the absence of objects such as illusions, gandharva cities, dreams, and dizziness. If the arising of consciousness depends on the object, then illusions and the like are meaningless, and consciousness will not arise. Therefore, the previous cessation

Consciousness arises from consciousness of the same type as that, and even if that is not present, it does not arise from external objects. From things that are not different, those who make distinctions are seen to be inconsistent with each other. It is impossible for one thing to have many contradictory natures. Therefore, it should be known that the object of distinction is non-existent because it is of a fabricated nature. This temporarily abandons the extreme of addition and wants to abandon the extreme of subtraction, so it is said that "all this is only consciousness." "Therefore" means "because of that." The nature of such transformation, that which is distinguished by distinction, does not exist, therefore, because there is no object, all is only consciousness. "All" refers to the three realms and the unconditioned. The word "only" is a word that cuts off objects beyond that. "Is" is the completion of the root. If all is only consciousness, and there is no other agent and action, then how do the distinguishing consciousnesses arise without an agent from the blessing of the root consciousness? Therefore it is said: Consciousness seeds all, by the power of each other, thus, thus it transforms and goes, therefore that that distinction arises. Among them, because all dharmas have the ability to produce, they are all seeds. Consciousness is the alaya consciousness. Because there are also consciousnesses that are not all seeds, it is said "all seeds." For non-consciousness, some also think of it as all seeds, therefore it is said "consciousness." Or, because there is confusion in one word, the difference and the basis of the difference are shown, and there is no fault in this. "By the power of each other, thus, thus it transforms and goes," among them, the alaya consciousness changing from the previous state to another state is transformation. "Thus, thus" means obtaining the word that can produce that distinction and its subsequent state. Regarding "mutual action," for example, when eye consciousness and others enter in order to fully nourish their own abilities, the alaya consciousness is the cause of transforming special abilities. Alaya consciousness transforms
