It is not. Among them, regret, sleep, investigation, and analysis that are afflicted are themselves afflictions, but the other is not. Among them, just as the six types of consciousnesses that focus on forms, sounds, etc., are associated with whatever is appropriate among all the pervasive, specific, virtuous, afflictive, near-afflictive, and all mental factors, similarly, there are three feelings: the feeling of pleasure, the feeling of pain, and the feeling of neither pain nor pleasure. They are associated with the three feelings because they arise from agreeable and disagreeable things, and from forms, etc., that are in a state of equanimity. They are also associated with virtue, non-virtue, and the unspecified. The alaya-consciousness is only associated with the five pervasive factors; it is not associated with others. Among them, feeling is equanimity, which is unobscured and unspecified. The afflicted mind is always associated with the five pervasive factors and the four afflictions, such as ignorance of self. Among them, feeling is also equanimity, which is obscured and unspecified. This should be considered: whether the five, such as eye-consciousness, even if they simultaneously encounter the conditions of an object, only one arises from the alaya-consciousness, and not two or more? For example, some think that the mind is not two or more at the same time, because there is no immediate condition, so only one consciousness will arise, and one consciousness cannot act as the immediate condition for many. Or it is not certain that if one encounters the condition of one, one will arise, and similarly, if one encounters the condition of two or more, will two or more also arise? Therefore, The five from the root consciousness, Whatever arises from what kind of condition, Is consciousness simultaneous or not? Like waves from water. It is said. The five refers to the consciousnesses such as eye, etc., and the mental consciousness that follows them. The place of the seeds of the five is the mind.

Therefore, it arises from it, and in order to take rebirth among beings, the ālaya-vijñāna is called the root consciousness. The so-called "how the cause," means that whatever cause it encounters, that thing will definitely arise, and arising is obtaining self. The so-called "simultaneous or non-simultaneous" means simultaneous or gradual. The so-called "like waves in water" is an analogy for how the entering consciousness arises from the ālaya-vijñāna, either simultaneously or non-simultaneously. As it is said in the sutra, the wise one, for example, the flow of a river, if the cause for one wave to arise is near, then one wave will arise. If the cause for two or three, or many waves to arise is near, then many waves will also arise, and the flow of the river will not be interrupted, nor will it completely disappear. Similarly, the wise one, the ālaya-vijñāna, like the place of that river, completely relies on and abides in it, and if only the cause for the eye consciousness to arise is near, then only the eye consciousness will arise. If the cause for two or three or five consciousnesses to arise is near, then two, three, or five consciousnesses will also arise, just as it is said in the sutra. There is a verse for this: The consciousness of taking is deep and subtle, all seeds flow like a river, it is not right to grasp as self, this I have not taught to children. Thus. Since the cause of the object of consciousness is determined separately, then the immediately preceding cause is not needed. Because the arising of all consciousnesses is considered to be the immediately preceding cause of all consciousnesses. If it encounters the cause of the object, even if it is only from that immediately preceding cause, two or more consciousnesses will arise, which is not contradictory. If the immediately preceding cause is not determined separately, then when the five (consciousnesses) simultaneously encounter the cause of the object, only one will arise, not all five, what reason is there for this? Therefore, if there is an object, it must be admitted that all five will arise, or none will arise. Now it is to be said, what? Mind

So, does consciousness arise together with eye consciousness and so on? Or is it thought that it can arise even without them, therefore, regarding the arising of consciousness, it is said: "The arising of consciousness, Always or without thought, And the two samādhis, Mindless sleep and fainting." That is what is said. "Always" means all times, it is a synonym for being together with or not being together with eye consciousness and so on. In order to exclude this, the special exclusions are begun: without thought, and the two samādhis, mindless sleep and fainting. Among these, "without thought" refers to those minds and mental factors that are born in the realm of the gods of unconscious beings and are obstructed. The two samādhis are the samādhi of non-perception and the samādhi of cessation. Among these, the samādhi of non-perception refers to those who have separated from desire in the third dhyāna but have not separated from desire in the higher realms, and who, with the intention of first arising thought, obstruct consciousness and the mental factors that are in accordance with it, this is called the samādhi of non-perception. Because it obstructs, it is called cessation. That is, it obstructs the non-arising of consciousness and the corresponding dharmas, this is a distinction of the stage of the place. This samādhi also causes the mind to arise continuously and obtains an uncommon position, so it is called samādhi. The samādhi of cessation refers to those who have separated from desire in the realm of nothingness, abide in peace, and with the intention of first arising thought, obstruct consciousness and the afflicted mind, and the corresponding dharmas, this is also like the samādhi of non-perception, it is a distinction of the stage of the place. Mindless sleep refers to the fact that because the state itself is oppressed by heaviness, consciousness does not arise for that period of time, so it is called mindless. Mindless fainting refers to sudden appearances, and imbalances of wind, bile, and phlegm, that is, imbalances of the place, consciousness
