As for physical pliancy, it refers to the lightness that arises from the fulfillment of the body's own needs. Mental pliancy refers to the tranquility of mind that engages in correct attention, and the cause of lightness arises from the mind, transforming into another state of dharma. If one possesses this pliancy, the mind can engage in the object of focus without hindrance, hence it is called mental pliancy. When the body's tactile sensation is filled with joy, one should recognize that the body has reached extreme suppleness. It is said in the sutras, "When the mind is joyful, the body becomes extremely supple." This is because it is transformed by the influence of joy and has the function of eliminating all obscurations of afflictions. Being with mindfulness means being accompanied by mindfulness, which refers to equanimity. Why is that? Because it is the sole virtue, and here we are talking about all virtues. Just like faith and so on, it is not specifically mentioned, and since there is no other more excellent virtue, it is evident that it refers to the function of equanimity itself. Mindfulness is the antidote to heedlessness. From non-attachment to diligence is mindfulness, that is, abiding in non-attachment and so on, abandoning non-virtuous dharmas, and also cultivating their antidote—virtuous dharmas, these non-attachments and so on are mindfulness. Therefore, mindfulness is the antidote to heedlessness, because heedlessness is the opposite of this. It has the function of perfecting all worldly and transcendental qualities. Equanimity refers to the equality of mind, the abiding of mind in its natural state, and the spontaneous accomplishment of mind. These three terms indicate the beginning, middle, and end stages of equanimity. Sinking and agitation refer to the inequality of mind, because without these, the first is the equality of mind. After that, without any fabrication or effort, the mind naturally abides in equality, which is abiding in its natural state. At this time, because the meditation time is not long, there is still concern that sinking and agitation may occur. After that, because the meditation has become advanced, the aspects that are incompatible with it have become distant, so there is no need for antidotes, because sinking and agitation are the root of the causes of antidotes.

When the mind is spontaneously accomplished without artificiality, it is itself spontaneously accomplished. This is the basis for not distinguishing all afflictions and near afflictions, and it is its function. Non-harming is the antidote to harming. Non-harming means not harming sentient beings through killing, binding, etc., and being compassionate towards sentient beings. Compassion arises from eliminating the decline of merit. The decline of merit refers to happiness, and eliminating happiness is its synonym. One who has compassion feels pain when others suffer. This is the function of non-harming. The eleven virtues have been discussed. After that, in order to explain the afflictions, therefore, being influenced by them, the afflictions are: desire, anger, ignorance, pride, view, and doubt. Thus it is declared. Desire, anger, and ignorance are desire, anger, and ignorance. Among them, desire is the excessive attachment and longing for existence and enjoyment, which is the function of generating all suffering. Suffering refers to the aggregates of appropriation mentioned here, which manifest through the power of the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. Therefore, it is said that the function of desire is to generate all suffering. Anger is the universal torment of sentient beings, having a rough mind towards sentient beings. When controlled by it, one thinks of harming sentient beings through killing, binding, etc. This is the basis for discomfort and misconduct, and it is its function. Comfort is happiness, and dwelling together with it is dwelling in comfort. Not dwelling in comfort is discomfort, which is synonymous with suffering. If there is a mind of torment, then displeasure will inevitably arise, and therefore the mind will feel pain. Because the mind changes accordingly, the body will also feel pain, so in all actions, one will abide with suffering and poverty. Having a hateful mind is not compatible with any misconduct, therefore anger is discomfort and misconduct.
