The meaning of these two should also be stated as before. How should the words of great joy be spoken? In order to awaken from sleep, words of great joy are spoken. Listen to a story for a moment. A donkey was exhausted from carrying a load, and a foal said it would dance. The donkey said, "You dance, and I'll wiggle my ears." After saying that, it danced, and to be in harmony with the foal, it wiggled its ears, so it is said. If you teach me the Dharma, wouldn't you even be willing to wiggle your ears twice? Also, a fox wanted to eat the rotten meat of a lion. It followed behind the lion, and the lion turned around once, killed a large wild boar, and then said to the fox, "Take this." Because the fox was weak, it wasn't even willing to lift the meat. It thought, "If I anger it, it will kill me, which would be bad," so it couldn't refuse its words. It knew that this lion was both foolish and arrogant, so it said, "If I carry this load, I have to do two things: I have to carry the load and make a sound. Therefore, I can't do two things at once, so you do one." The lion, being arrogant, didn't want to make a sound either, so it said, "Then you make a sound, and I'll carry it." The lion carried the load, and to be in harmony with the lion, the fox made a sound, so it is said. Similarly, Dunzhu (a name) carried the load in order to teach the Dharma. To be in harmony with me, just say "Yes, yes" a little, and it will become virtuous. Also, an old man used improper means to pursue a woman, but he didn't succeed. He said, "The Bhagavan said that a man cannot understand a woman's mind, but I can't do this, which contradicts the Sutra." So it is said. Similarly, you are a person of faith but unwilling to listen to the Dharma, which contradicts the Sutra, which says that from the signs of faith, one should desire to listen to the Dharma. Also, a poor old woman lived in a formerly wealthy house, and a thief hoped to steal something there, so at night he broke through the wall and entered, and in the darkness with both hands

It is said that while searching for earthen materials, one encountered a roadside container that made a sound. That woman said, "Child, even if I search in the sunlight, I cannot find anything. How can you find anything in the darkness?" Similarly, even if one has clear wisdom and possesses light, it is difficult to find the meaning of the Buddha's teachings for a while. How can a mind oppressed by the darkness of sleep see anything? When reading the works of the Bharata, the grown man cried. The helpful person asked, "Why are you crying?" He said, "Look at how much suffering those who play musical instruments have experienced." He also said, "This is the work of Bharata, not a work to make people happy." He also said, "I am wasting time and wasting my mind in vain." It is said that if I preach the Dharma and you fall asleep, then what I am saying is meaningless. Similarly, an old and frail person cannot be given full ordination. Like this, one should also tell the stories of foolish women as much as possible, and say, "I cannot make you listen." In order to awaken people, one should tell all kinds of happy stories. So, how should one tell the stories of ordinary people? People's lives are a hundred years long, and half of that is spent sleeping at night. Sleeping during the day as well, that half is further divided into segments. Life is like the wheel of Yama, fitted with sharp blades. Why do the living still sleep? From gaining what does breathing cease, and what has been realized, and what obstacles have been removed? What is the talk of transcending the evil realms, and what is the definite karma of things that should not be done? Burned by subtle flames, forced by power, and what has been passed? Tell me. What does this show? By virtue of two causes, in the case where life and breath have not ceased, obtaining the cessation of breath, it is permissible to sleep as if alive, but otherwise it is not. What are the two causes? Obtaining prophecy itself, even without realization, for example, some are prophesied that they will not fall into degeneration for such long eons and will eventually attain Nirvana. Obtaining the fruit itself, by obtaining what? The afflictions of the evil realms, and birth,
