Since the mind is not yet fully matured, do not be displeased by the appearance of many Buddhas. In order to fully mature the mindstream, one should strive to listen to the sacred Dharma. The limbs of practice have changed now. The Sangha also turns away from loving-kindness. Those who strive in discipline, within the Sangha, fearlessly carry signs and actions. Where is the former place of meditation? Alas, how can it be purified by fruit? Here, it is feared that the Buddha's teachings will not remain for a long time. This shows that the monks have completely ruined this teaching in four ways: focusing on acquiring wealth leads to laxity in discipline, the loving-kindness towards those who practice celibacy is completely lost, and striving to obtain personal benefits is also completely lost. Therefore, it should be known that the teachings will remain for a short time, and faithful people should strive to listen, receive, memorize, and practice in accordance with their meaning. For the benefit of these beings, the many sufferings that have been proclaimed, remembering these, even if the teachings decline, you should abide by them. What more to say about your teachings that proclaim benefit and do benefit? Even if a fire is burning on your head, how can you not do it? Therefore, after examining each individually, one should also abide in the teachings of the Buddha Bhagavan. After sentient beings die from here, will they still encounter the precious sacred Dharma? Can one obtain an unchanging opportunity to hear, who will teach the sacred Dharma? No one knows these things, therefore, you should strive to listen to the teachings of the teacher. Circumstances change, abiding is invisible, the departed do not return, new births constantly arise. However, one clings to self and what belongs to self, this being is swallowed by ignorance. What does this verse reveal? All conditioned things are of the nature of destruction, their own nature is momentary. For those that are neither permanent nor annihilated, one ignorantly clings to self and what belongs to self. Furthermore, seeing impermanence as permanence, seeing the short-lived as long-lasting, grieving when it is destroyed, and expecting destruction. Therefore, for conditioned phenomena, one should cut off their root.

Tranquility reveals this impermanence. Therein, with two roots, it completely reveals the absence of self in conditioned phenomena and the absence of 'mine'. One is the view of them as self and 'mine'. The other is its cause, being seized by ignorance. Thus, from this verse, in brief, the basis, nature, and cause of the inverted clinging to self are completely revealed. That cause, ignorance, cannot be abandoned except by listening to the sacred Dharma. Therefore, thinking, 'I must not be swallowed by ignorance,' one should respectfully listen to the Dharma. Thus, the necessities of listening to the sacred Dharma are endless; this is just a part. By this part, having shown the necessity correctly, one should speak of possessing respectful listening. How, then, by approaching with words of wonder, great joy, and sorrow? In order to clarify the minds of those who are drowsy and sleepy, one should speak of wonder or great joy. For those whose minds are distracted, one should cause sorrow, so that those who become sorrowful will have single-pointed minds. How should it be done? For a moment, speaking of wonder: In the teachings of the Buddhas, everything you have done is not in vain. Therefore, generate great joy. What has been done, if it is what should be done, will decay. What is the meaning of this? In the teachings of the Buddha, starting from the three Bodhis, everything that has been done to fully ripen the continuum through hearing, thinking, or meditating is not in vain. Even if one falls away from the root of virtue, even if a long time passes, when one strives, one will obtain only distinction. Therefore, one should generate great joy, thinking, 'I have done what is fully ripened, and there is no decay.' If what has been done is also what should be done, then it will decay, like the absorptions done by outsiders. What has been done that is not to be done, even after a long time, will attain peace. What has been done that is to be done, even after a very long time, will not attain peace. What has been done that is not to be done has the possibility of becoming a Buddha. What has been done that is to be done will not even have the possibility of liberation. Verse.
