Furthermore, it is said: All dharmas are without inherent existence, all dharmas are unborn, etc., all dharmas are unceasing, all dharmas are primordially peaceful, all dharmas are naturally in nirvana. Without contemplation, who among the wise would speak of this? Characteristics are without inherent existence, birth is without inherent existence, ultimate reality is without inherent existence, so I have said. Whichever wise person understands these with their mind, they will not go down the path of utter ruin. Thus it is said. In other scriptures as well: In the aggregates there is no self, the aggregates are not self, they do not exist as they are examined, and their non-existence is also not non-existence. Like a child's examination, all things exist, as they are seen, everything will be seen as it is. Because all things do not exist, there is no purification of defilements, as they are seen, they do not exist, and their non-existence is also not non-existence. Again it is said: By the nature of complete imputation, all dharmas are unborn, abiding in dependence on others, the conceptual thoughts of people wander. When dependence on others is pure, free from conceptual thought, the utterly transformed is suchness, abiding in the abandonment of conceptual thought. Whether conceptualization is truly existent or not, conceptual thought, thinking ceases. In the nature of the apprehended and the apprehender, mistakenly conceptualizing them, if one examines external objects, that is the nature of complete imputation. The conceptual thought that conceptualizes, is the nature of arising from conditions. The view of external objects is inverted, meaningless mind is the only thing. If analyzed with reason, the apprehended and the apprehender cease. As a child examines, external objects are meaningless. The mind stirred by habitual tendencies, appears as real, extremely clear. Such and so forth, when explaining the definitive meaning, if the meaning of the ultimate truth is not understood, then saying that there is no explanation of the definitive meaning in the Mahayana is merely a reckless statement. Therefore, because of the contradiction, the assertion that the Mahayana is not the word of the Buddha is not established. Furthermore, if one says that the Mahayana is not the word of the Buddha, then one should question and examine, what is the characteristic of the word of the Buddha? Answer: The word of the Buddha itself is

If someone asks, what is it that is universally accepted by the eighteen schools? Then, those that are not accepted by the heads of the schools who are not respected by all the noble ones, such as the sutras that expound the true emptiness, and those that are not accepted by the schools that possess the intermediate state and expound such things as the "seven existences," those are not the words of the Buddha. How can the eighteen schools fully accept those sutras of different schools from each other? Therefore, those are not the words of the Buddha. The Vinaya and the Abhidharma also differ in words and meanings for all the schools, so how can these two be understood as the words of the Buddha? If someone asks, is what is universally accepted by some teachers the words of the Buddha? Then, is it because what is said is said well, or is there some reason? If someone asks, what is unreasonable about this? Then, how can all contradictions become the words of the Buddha, and all the words of the Buddha are not visible now, has it not been said that way? Therefore, that is devoid of definition. If someone asks, whatever is in accordance with the sutras, appears in the Vinaya, and is not inconsistent with the nature of Dharma, that is the word of the Buddha, because the great teaching itself is प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure, प्रमाण), is a reliable basis. Then, for what is the Sutra or the Vinaya, what is the nature of Dharma? What is the nature of the Dharma of the characteristics of the dharmas that are famous for the sutras or the Vinaya that are correctly collected by those who collect them correctly? Has it not been said that the basis of correct collection has now declined? If someone asks, then, for any school, what is the correct collection, what is the fully established nature of Dharma? Then, has it not been forbidden to say that all contradictions become the words of the Buddha? If someone asks, what is it that is in accordance with the sutras of the noble truths, appears in the Vinaya of subduing afflictions, and is not inconsistent with the nature of dependent origination? Then, how does one accord with the sutras of the noble truths? Is it through words or through meaning? If it is said to be through words, then all the other sutras
