Not relying on verses is because the desire to do so has been abandoned. Not praising oneself and not slandering others is because the speaker has abandoned the desire to make himself more trustworthy. Thus, in what way, for what purpose, what kind, and by what means to speak, these five aspects are fully explained. The scriptures say that in order to counteract the eleven faults, one must possess twenty kinds of speech. The eleven faults are: the fault of speaking to an unsuitable vessel, the fault of speaking incompletely, the fault of interrupted speech, the fault of unintelligible speech, the fault of speech that is not revered, the fault of speaking without meaning, the fault of speaking outside the realm of practice, the fault of speaking distractedly, the fault of speaking in association with meaninglessness, the fault of speaking inappropriately, and the fault of speaking with afflicted thoughts. Among these, an unsuitable vessel refers to someone whose conduct is unseemly. To counteract the fault of interrupted speech, one must recognize the three modes of order, etc., namely, mastering with the words of teaching, debate, and response. To counteract the fault of unintelligible speech, one needs the sixth, seventh, and eighth modes, namely, mastering with the faithful, the hostile, and those in between. To counteract the fault of speech that is not revered, one needs the ninth and tenth modes, namely, it is not appropriate to generate joy for those who commit evil deeds, and even slander will turn into the fault of not being revered. The non-realm of practice refers to profound meaning, namely, for those of inferior faculties. Afflicted thoughts are of three kinds: the thought of wanting to be trusted, the thought of revering after faith, and the thought of jealousy. To counteract the first thought, one needs the aspects of loving-kindness, benefit, and compassion, namely, the very thought of wanting to realize nirvana and the path to it, and the thought of wanting to understand the meaning of what is said. Furthermore, in short, from here on, it begins with the combination of speech, the function of speech, the qualities of speech, and the qualities of the speaker.

One should recognize the five-five aspects from the ground. Chapter Four. One should listen to the Dharma with these sixteen aspects, which is a section of the Sutra Pitaka. Then, these sixteen aspects should be recognized as the antidote to the thirteen faults. The thirteen faults are: for the speaker, the fault of one's own actions and conduct, the fault of arrogance, the fault of not seeking meaning, the fault of being partial to others and being resentful, the fault of not respecting the speaker because he is not worthy of offerings, the fault of the intention to refute in a perverse way, the fault of not serving because one does not pay attention to the Dharma and the speaker, the fault of contempt because one pays attention to faults, the fault of longing, the fault of desiring gain and respect, the fault of not listening due to distraction and dullness, the fault of not paying attention well, and the fault of not paying attention completely. Among them, when focusing inwardly, the first fault is due to the unseemly conduct. The fault of arrogance is due to the arising of pride because of being of high birth, etc. For the Dharma, it is the virtue and well-spokenness and the great fruit itself. For the speaker, it is the virtuous friend himself. The fault of the Dharma is that the words and letters are not connected. The fault of the speaker is that the discipline, lineage, appearance, speech, and expression are incomplete. Distraction is when the mind wanders elsewhere. Dullness is when the mind is subdued by sluggishness and sleep. Not paying attention well is due to misunderstanding the meaning and nature of Dharma in a perverse way. Not paying attention completely is due to weak intention and engagement. It is said in the scriptures that the sixteen aspects are the antidote to the six faults. The six faults are the fault of action, the fault of lack of faith, the fault of not being worthy of offerings, the fault of intention, the fault of inconsistency itself, and the fault of attachment. Among them, the fault of action has three aspects. The fault of bodily action is because the posture is not dignified. Body and speech
