, and being distracted outwards, these two are the two kinds of mental activity that are abandoned as the sole antidote. Furthermore, as an antidote to the near afflictions of tranquility and insight, there are two terms, namely the antidote to sinking and excitement. There are also two terms for the antidote to the near afflictions of equanimity. What are these two terms? Namely, ignorance, which makes mindfulness completely ignorant, and craving, which makes the mind distracted by tasting flavors. Furthermore, as an antidote to the four kinds of faults, there are four terms. The four kinds of faults are that if one does not exert effort, the mind will sink, if one exerts too much effort, the body will become exhausted, and forgetfulness and mental decline, that is, what causes the body to be wrongly fabricated, mindfulness to be completely ignorant, and the mind not to be focused, that is, due to the distraction of the object. Therefore, in order to truly show its antidote, it should be known that diligence and so on are distinguished by the later words. Proper attention, that is, "eye-born" and other words are sections of the Sutra. Among them, because the meaning is manifest, the wisdom without outflows is the eye. Because there is no doubt, it is knowledge. Because the truth is manifested, it is clarity. Because of purity, it is intelligence, because it is the cause of the nature of the definitive word, so it is intelligence because of purity. In order to truly show that the eye has no weakness, error, and turbidity, it is distinguished in three ways. Furthermore, the views of the outsiders are evil views of the truth, and are not antidotes to doubt and ignorance, and are with outflows, so in order to distinguish from this, the eye and so on are spoken of. Furthermore, for the three practices, what is first seen is the eye. How to see and discriminate is knowledge. Relying on how much these two have, so it is clarity, because it holds how much. Relying on how it has, so it is intelligence, because it truly knows how the truth is. Furthermore, in order to prevent those who have not heard the Dharma from making subsequent inferences, the word eye is spoken. Arising from faith
