O! Engaging in seeking existence is the second. Engaging in seeking wrong conduct is the last two, namely, in the form of abiding and abiding-related. The river of views is abiding. The river of ignorance is abiding, because if one is ignorant, one will wrongly conceive of liberation and its means. The bonds are four, namely, the bond of desire, the bond of existence, the bond of views, and the bond of ignorance. Because they are what separate separation, they are bonds. Those are also of the three who are engaged in seeking. How are they to be combined accordingly? Clinging is fourfold, namely, clinging to desire, clinging to views, clinging to morality and asceticism, and clinging to the doctrine of self. Because it is the root of contention, it is clinging. Therefore, also because of clinging to existence, they are clinging and so forth. Regarding desire, with attachment and special attachment, and bondage and complete attachment, and the cause of universal attachment, householders and householders contend together. The root of that contention is the first. Regarding views, with attachment and special attachment, and bondage and complete attachment, and the cause of universal attachment, renunciates and renunciates contend together. The root of that contention is the three clingings. The sixty-two views are clinging to views. Mostly asceticism and severe asceticism are separately different, which is clinging to morality and asceticism. The basis of those, the view of the perishable aggregate, is clinging to the doctrine of self. Clinging to views and clinging to morality and asceticism are what non-Buddhists contend with each other, because there are many desires for that. Regarding clinging to the doctrine of self, internal people do not contend, because everyone agrees that there is a self. With clinging to the doctrine of self, non-Buddhists and those of this Dharma contend together, because this says there is no self. Thus, the root of those contentions, because of manifest clinging to clinging, there is also clinging to existence in the future. Therefore, they are clinging and so forth.

It should be known. The knots are four: greed is a knot of the body, malice is a knot of the body, holding precepts and asceticism as supreme is a knot of the body, and holding this as true and manifestly clinging to it is a knot of the body. The knots are for severing the nature of the mind in equipoise from the body. It should be understood that these are not knots of the physical body, but knots because they sever the nature of the mind in equipoise from the body. Thus, there are four kinds of distraction: distraction of the mind due to a slight cause of entanglement, and the cause of not accomplishing well in disputes, and the cause of dwelling in suffering through severe precepts and asceticism, and the cause of understanding objects of knowledge improperly causes the mind to be distracted. Because of relying on individual views and manifestly clinging to "this is true, others are foolish" and understanding objects of knowledge, therefore, the cause of understanding objects of knowledge improperly causes the mind to be distracted. Upon what does it cause distraction? Upon knowing and seeing the mind in equipoise as it is. There are five obscurations: the obscuration of desire, and malice, and dullness, and sleep, and excitement, and regret, and the obscuration of doubt. The obscuration of doubt. Because it is a factor of not understanding virtue, therefore, these are obscurations. Because it obscures the mind from not understanding virtue, therefore, these are obscurations. It means that it is an obstacle to entering virtue. At the time of manifest joy in renunciation, and at the time of encouragement to accomplish well, and at the time of quiescence, and at the time of grasping, and at the time of equanimity, it is also a factor of not understanding virtue, therefore, these are obscurations. Among these, desire is an obstacle to manifest joy in renunciation. Because of wanting to engage closely with objects, therefore, there is no joy in this. Malice is at the time of good encouragement, when those who practice similarly to Brahma encourage the place of learning to accomplish correctly, because of malice, one does not learn correctly. Dullness, and sleep, and excitement
