Furthermore, ignorance, when directed towards a higher realm, is similar to and coexists with views. A view refers to nothing other than the view of the aggregates of existence; the manifest clinging to the aggregates of other realms as "I" is unseen. The afflictions of a higher realm do not focus on a lower realm. The statement that the afflictions of a higher realm do not focus on a lower realm is because one has become detached from desire for it. Afflictions that focus on cessation and the path should be observed as not focusing on them. When focusing on cessation and the path, one does not actually focus on those two; rather, they are to be individually cognized by supramundane wisdom and its subsequent attainment. Its object is what it fully understands, and it should be said that its object is what it fully understands. The statement "its object is what it fully understands" is because, from the term "fully understands," there is no difference from "fully examines." Afflictions that focus on the groundless are similar to and coexistent with views. Other than that, it focuses on what has a basis. What is coexistent? Desire is not coexistent with anger. As with anger, so too with doubt. The remainder are coexistent with it. Why is desire not coexistent with anger? Because it is impossible for two extremely incompatible things to occur simultaneously. It is also not coexistent with doubt, because if one is in doubt, the mind has no abiding place, so there is no arising of attachment. The statement "the remainder are with it" means that because there is no incompatibility with pride and so forth, it should be understood as coexistent. Just as with desire and anger, anger is also not coexistent with desire, pride, and views. The statement "anger is also not coexistent with desire, pride, and views" means that whoever becomes angry with something will not become conceited because of it. Because he is also unable to understand it. Similarly, it should also be applied to other situations. Pride is not coexistent with anger and doubt. Ignorance is an affliction.

It is also associated with everything and also unassociated. Unassociated means not knowing the truths. Views are not associated with anger and doubt. Doubt is not associated with desire, pride, and views. Anger and other near afflictions are not mutually associated. Dissimilar things are not associated with dissimilar things, for example, things belonging to the category of desire are not associated with things belonging to the category of hatred. Things without dissimilarity should be understood as associated like afflictions. Shamelessness and lack of shame are associated with all non-virtues. Not looking at oneself and others, because there is no universal arising. Dullness, agitation, lack of faith, laziness, and shamelessness are associated with all afflictions. Dullness and so on should also be combined with all those with afflictions, because without unsuitability for work and so on, it is impossible to have afflictions. What are the names for universal combination, bondage, latent tendencies, near afflictions, universal entanglement, rivers, combination, near taking, knots, veils, taints, stains, sins, suffering, anything, misconduct, outflows, poverty, complete torment, disturbance, strife, plague, forest combination, scrofula? How many universal combinations are there? How? Where does it combine? There are nine universal combinations: universal combination in accordance with desire, universal combination in accordance with anger, universal combination in accordance with pride, universal combination in accordance with ignorance, universal combination in accordance with views, universal combination in accordance with holding as supreme, universal combination in accordance with doubt, universal combination in accordance with jealousy, universal combination in accordance with stinginess. The universal combination in accordance with desire is the desire of the three realms. One who has the universal combination in accordance with desire will not be disgusted with the three realms. Because of not being disgusted, one will engage in non-virtue and not engage in virtue, therefore suffering in the next life will become manifest.
