There is no interval between them. Some are destroyed and then ruined, some are destroyed and then stop, some are formed, and some are formed and then stop. Just as it is in the east, so it is in all ten directions. The sentient beings' world and the container world, which are produced by karma and afflictions, all that arises from the power of karma and afflictions is the truth of suffering. Among these, what is produced by karma and afflictions, and what arises from the power of karma and afflictions, these in order, indicate the cause of suffering for sentient beings and the container world themselves. Any completely pure world should be regarded as not being the truth of suffering, because they are not produced by karma and afflictions, nor do they arise from the power of karma and afflictions, but rather they arise from the power of aspirations and roots of virtue. Therefore, because they are the realm of the Pratyekabuddhas, those places of birth are inconceivable, they are not even the object of meditation for meditators, what need is there to mention that they are the realm of speculators? Previously, everything has been shown as the characteristic of the truth of suffering, now starting from the truth of suffering, in order to show what is said in the sutras, a differentiation is begun and explained. Again, the suffering of birth, the suffering of aging, the suffering of sickness, the suffering of death, the suffering of meeting with what is unpleasant, the suffering of separation from what is pleasant, the suffering of not obtaining what is desired, in short, the five aggregates of clinging are suffering. Why is birth suffering? Because it is the very suffering of narrowness, and because it is the place of other sufferings. Because in the mother's womb, it arises from being between what is digested and what is not digested, and in the womb it is tormented by various impure substances, experiencing the suffering of being squeezed in all parts of the body. After birth, the sufferings of aging and so on also arise in succession, this is in order. Why is aging suffering? Because the change of age itself is suffering. Why is sickness suffering? Because the change of elements itself is suffering.

It is for this reason. Why the suffering of death? Because the change of life itself is suffering. Why the suffering of encountering unpleasant things? Because encountering itself is suffering. Why the suffering of separation from pleasant things? Because separation itself is suffering. Why is it also suffering when one seeks what one desires but cannot find it? Because hope without fruit is suffering. Why, in short, is the suffering of the five aggregates of clinging, the suffering of bad aggregation, itself suffering? These eight, though eight, become six; though six, they become eight: the suffering of worry, the suffering of change, the suffering of encounter, the suffering of separation, the suffering of fruitless hope, and the suffering of bad aggregation. These become eight in relation to each other, because they have made the nature of the three sufferings the basis. If it is said that there are three natures of suffering, do these three natures of suffering encompass the eight kinds of suffering? Or do the eight kinds of suffering encompass the three natures of suffering? One encompasses the other: the suffering of birth, the suffering of aging, the suffering of sickness, the suffering of death, and the suffering of encountering unpleasant things, all that is said here fully reveals the very nature of suffering. To say that "the very nature of suffering, such as birth, has been fully revealed" is because it is the self-characteristic of the dharma that experiences suffering. The suffering of separation from pleasant things, and that seeking what one desires but not finding it is also suffering, all that is said here fully reveals the very nature of the suffering of change. To say that "separation from pleasant things, etc., fully reveals the very nature of the suffering of change" is because the dharma that experiences happiness through encounter and non-encounter is the self-characteristic of change. In short, the five aggregates of clinging are suffering, all that is said here fully reveals the very nature of the suffering of conditioning. To say that "the five aggregates of clinging are suffering" is because it is not liberated from the two, and the nature of impermanence follows, because it is not the cause of accomplishment and happiness.
